Wrexham boss in upbeat mood despite Swansea City defeat

Wrexham manager Steve Dale said his side will not dwell after a ‘disappointing’ 2-1 defeat away to Swansea City.

Wrexham took the lead in the 12th minute thanks to a goal from Carra Jones, before two second half strikes from Ellie Lake and Katy Hosford rescued the three points for the home side.

Speaking after the narrow defeat Dale said: : “You probably say that we scored against the run of play a little bit, but we had to do a bit of defending first half and sort of rode our luck a little bit.”

“Second half we did everything we said that we shouldn’t do really in terms of soaking up the pressure, because when you play against a decent team they’re going to punish you ultimately if you’re not at it” added Dale.

The defeat ended Wrexham’s four game winning run in all competitions, with them enjoying a strong start to life in the top flight since promotion last campaign. Dale stated that he Is happy with the form his side has shown so far this season.

“Obviously delighted with our form really, it’s our second defeat, we’ve lost to Cardiff (City) and Swansea, you know the top two dominant force in women’s football in the top tier.” said the Wrexham manager.

“Yes its disappointing that we’ve lost, and the manner we lost the game, but we won’t dwell too much on it, its important that we use this as a kick start to go on another good run now, and put some results together again” added the 33 year old.

Record Attendance for Swansea City

The game was attended by 3,858 fans, which is the record attendance for a Swansea Women’s team fixture, adding to some of the big crowds already seen at Wrexham and Cardiff City this season.

“It felt like a proper game of football, with an atmosphere which is nice, and we hope that that’s going to continue to grow, and obviously give every team that exposure and potential to grow the game” said Dale on the great attendance.

His side were missing league top scorer Rosie Hughes due to suspension, but Dale didn’t feel that missing their leading goalscorer had a big effect on the outcome of the game.

“Its disappointing when she’s not in the team, but you saw the likes of Ava (Suckley) and Carra (Jones) step up and have an oppertunity, Carra got a goal today so you know its not the be all and end all when Rosie is missing, we’ve got other players missing too that are just as important.”
