Barry Town and Penybont could not be separated as they drew 1-1 at Jenner Park in the Cymru Premier on Tuesday night.
Keyon Reffell’s 69th minute equaliser cancelled out Kayne Mclaggon’s first half goal in a tight game at the Jenner Park Stadium
Barry began the game controlling the majority of the possession, whilst also playing some great football. This resulted in the first big chance falling their way. Ollie Hulbert played the ball to Mclaggon. His outside-the-foot shot was hit straight at Alex Pennock who caught with ease.
Chances continued to come for Barry. Aiden Lewis was played in behind, however the ball rolled through to Pennock. The midfielder slid to challenge the keeper, to which Pennock reacted and they both received yellow cards.
It wouldn’t be long before Barry made their pressure pay. Ollie Hulbert was running strongly with the ball at Billy Borge who brought down the Barry Town striker. The resulting free kick swung in by Jamie Vale. Callum Sainty headed the ball across goal and found Kayne McLaggon who tapped in at the back post to give Barry Town the lead after 26 minutes.
Penybont started the second half far better than they finished the first, moving the ball nicely resulting in Eliot Richards having a big opportunity to level the tie. However, he drags his shot wide of Luc Rees’ goal and behind for a goal kick.
Henry Jones also had a chance to level the match shortly after. Mark Little played the ball over to the midfielder whose header produced a spectacular save from Luc Rees. However, the danger was not over here.
After just producing a fine save from Luc Rees, Henry Jones crossed in the resulting corner which found Keyon Reffell eight yards out who headed home to draw Penybont level.
The game finished with neither side producing enough in the final 20 minutes to find the winner. Barry Town travel to Connah’s Quay for their next match in the JD Cymru Premier. Penybont will host Bala. Both matches take place on Saturday 2nd of December (2023).
Penybont climb above Haverfordwest County into seventh place in the JD Cymru Premier Table. A win for Colwyn Bay against Connah’s Quay tomorrow (29/11/2023) will see them climb above Barry into ninth place.
