A book documenting the entire history of the Cymru Premier has been published.

‘A League of Our Own: The Cymru Premier Story’ is a book published by St David’s press, and written by freelance journalist Mark Langshaw. It takes a deep dive into the complete 30-year history of the league since its formation in 1992.

Several high-profile names have been interviewed to give their experience of the league and their opinions. Legendary Wales and Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall gives his thoughts. Nigel Adkins won two league titles with Bangor City and went on to manage Southampton in the Premier League, has also made a contribution.

“I felt compelled to write this book after doing some ground-hopping around Wales,” said Langshaw, who has written for numerous football publications in the past, including Four Four Two.

“I was instantly won over by the community vibe, standard of football, and club culture there, and was eager to find out more about the league.

“I was hoping there would be a book I could dig into for this, and when I found out there were none in existence, I took it upon myself to write one.

“Some of the stories I discovered along the way absolutely captivated me. From the ‘Irate Eight’, to the Barry Town supporters’ fight to bring their club back from the brink, there are so many tales from this league that deserve to be retold time and time again, and I feel privileged that I got to compile them together in one place, complete with first-hand accounts from the people involved.”

The book comes at an essential time as the Football Association of Wales conducts a thorough review of the league. Noel Mooney, the CEO of the FAW has said that in the New Year there will be a public consultation about the league, and has pledged investment into the division.

Looking for a last-minute Christmas present? The book is now widely available through bookstores, online retailers, and directly from the publisher now.
