Pontypridd United manager steps down after points deduction
Pontypridd United have announced the departure of first-team manager Andrew Stokes.
The 38-year-old leaves after one year and seven months in the role. He guided the club to an eighth-place finish in their first season in the Cymru Premier.
Stokes leaves Pontypridd at a time where the club are bottom of the league. Pontypridd were given a six-point deduction for player contract breaches. Pontypridd were found guilty on all 18 charges, and have a suspended 135-point deduction hanging over them.
In his parting statement, Stokes said on the official club website: “It has been an honour and privilege to lead the team during my tenure and notably leading the club to an eight-place finish in our first ever year in the Cymru Premier.”
“I have hugely appreciated the support of the board, ambassadors, sponsors, club officials, players, and staff.”
“I am confident that the club will continue to thrive, and I wish Pontypridd United Football Club the very best in all future endeavours.”
Pontypridd have nine days until their next match to find a replacement. The Dragons say that they will ‘provide’ an update on the new coaching staff in due course.
Thomas’ assistant manager Danny Thomas has also followed Stokes out of the door. Upon his departure, he said “I will be forever grateful for the opportunity you gave me to be part of the history of this club and to meet some wonderful people along the way.”
“The memories and successes we’ve had will live with me forever.”
“I wish the club all the best for the future and will follow the progress as a supporter from here on in.”
In addition to both Stokes and Thomas’ departure, two players have also left. Curtis Jemmett-Hutson has headed to Llanelli Town, whilst Corey Hurford has returned to Briton Ferry Llansawel.
