Former TNS, West Ham, Southampton and Grimsby Town figure lands EFL League One job

Former TNS manager Anthony Limbrick has landed himself a role at a League One club.

The 40-year-old has been appointed as the Professional Development Phase coach at Peterborough United.

He takes on the London Road gig after he left his role as manager of Manchester 62 after financial difficulties arose at the Gibraltarian outfit. Limbrick oversaw six league games in Gibraltar, winning three and drawing three with a points-per-match ratio of 1.50.

Speaking to the official club website on his appointment, he said: “I have been here a few days already, getting to know the players and staff and you can see it is a really good environment.

“I have been coaching for what feels like a lifetime, whether that be in schools when I first started my journey to first team management positions, but I really love working within this particular phase of the Academy, helping players develop and there is a real clear pathway here through to the first team.”

Limbrick returns to English football having worked with Southampton, West Ham United and at Grimsby Town. He was manager of The New Saints from April 2, 2021, to July 28, 2022.

Limbrick will work in a role that will see him oversee the under-21 and under-18 teams. He is the second former Cymru Premier and TNS manager to work in the EFL academy setup with his predecessor at TNS Scott Ruscoe currently working for Port Vale.

Peterborough United’s academy manager Dan Robinson said: “After a thorough recruitment process over the past 2/3 months, we are delighted to welcome Anthony to our senior coaching team. Anthony will oversee the u18s and u21s working closely with Jimmy Unwin, Ryan Semple, and Hugh Alban Jones.

“His focus is to ensure the players in the top end of the academy reach their potential and we continue to develop players for our first team. Anthony has a wealth of experience in both Academy and first-team environments whilst also holding his Pro License.’

The Australia-born coach won the Cymru Premier and the Welsh Cup in 2022 but was sacked from his Park Hall job after being eliminated from the UEFA Europa Conference League by Vikingur.
