Prestatyn Town unveil new manager and chairman with raft of signings

New chairman James Benbow begins his tenure as Prestatyn Town chairman with the appointment of St Asaph City manager Matthew Roberts.

Benbow’s takeover came as a surprise to supporters of the Cymru North side when it was announced this week as he steps up from managing Fifth Tier side Bow FC.

Founded in 2022, Bow FC was founded by Benbow as a replacement for Rhyl & District Sunday League club Bar Bow. Their inaugural season saw the club finishing in fourth place in the NWCFL East Division One table, nine points behind winners Abergele. Benbow leaves the club currently sat in third place with a one-hundred percent record of eight wins from eight.

Roberts fills the vacancy at Bastion Gardens having led St Asaph to a Fourth-Tier treble in his debut campaign in 2022/23, securing an immediate return to Tier 3 and leaves the Roe Plas outfit third in the Ardal North West after an excellent first half of the campaign.

Also, in at Bastion Gardens are two former Bow players in Richard Hill, who made his Prestatyn debut in Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat to Llandudno, and Denbigh Town striker Tom Weir.

Weir reunites with Benbow after spending the majority of 2022/23 with Bow after an unsuccessful spell at Gresford Athletic. His fifteen goals in seventeen games attracted the attention of Dewi Llion who brought him to Central Park in the summer.

Several more arrivals have followed including Isaac Hall and Harvey Gordon who are formerly of Rhuddlan. Alfie Vaughan has moved over from St Asaph and is a former Connah’s Quay Nomads academy player.

Mikey Burke however has announced that he will be departing the club. The 21-year-old left-winger who has two goals and one assist in 13 games, said on Saturday morning: Time to move on. Looking forward to what’s next. All the best @ptfcseasiders.”
