Penybont are interested in signing former Cardiff City forward Rhys Schwank, Y Clwb Pêl-droed understands.
The 20-year-old is currently at Abergavenny Town and has been one of the shining lights in a Pennies side that is battling relegation in the Cymru South.
Schwank has got 11 goals in 21 games this season. Two other Cymru Premier clubs are said to have held an interest in Schwank with the player being watched over in a recent game.
Penybont have so far made one signing in the January transfer window and that was the arrival of Archie Matthews from Swansea City. The goalkeeper made his debut in the 1-0 defeat to Connah’s Quay on the final day of Phase One.
Alex Pennock meanwhile departed the club and has linked up with Cymru South league leaders Briton Ferry Llansawel. Pennock was an unused substitute in the Reds’ 4-1 win over Pontardawe Town on Friday night.
In other news, manager Rhys Griffiths believes that Bont should appeal their recent points deduction. Eliot Richards was deemed as an ineligible player for their game against Aberystwyth Town at the end of October.
Penybont had until 17:00 GMT on Monday, January 15 to appeal the decision and Cymru Premier legend Griffiths gave an impassionate speech in response to their punishment.
He said in an interview with Sgorio: “We’ve got to appeal by Monday and from my perspective we need to do that. We’re in a situation where we’re taking points off of clubs where they haven’t gained any sporting advantage whatsoever.
“There’s no negligence in terms of finances that is going to threaten the stability of the club or the league. It’s literally a very simple admin error which makes no difference to anybody.
“Within the Welsh pyramid system we’re a big club I guess fighting at the top of it. In reality we’ve got volunteers working just like the other clubs in the Welsh pyramid trying to keep the club alive. For the FAW to take three points off us for an admin error is a disgrace.
“They say that they have got no discretion but who is running the show? Nobody is in that case and it’s about time they started showing some strength and actually using discretion and actually helping Welsh clubs to go forward and be alive because they’re killing us.”
