Colwyn Bay and Penybont meet at the Four Crosses Construction Arena in their first game of Phase Two in the Cymru Premier.
The two sides had a strong end to the January transfer window and are hoping that the additions to their squad bolster their chances of their respective achievements at either end of this now 6-team league.
Bay, whilst losing experience, have gained hunger and passion acquiring two youngsters, fullback Dan Davies and midfielder Owen Cushion, both on loan from League Two side Wrexham AFC as they look to turn their fortunes around and avoid relegation in their first season back in the big league.
Bont themselves have signed some high-profile players, former Wales u21s goalkeeper Adam Pryzbek has joined after a spell in Poland whilst talented fullback Lincoln McFayden has joined on a six-month month loan deal from Championship side Swansea City.
Their goal for this second phase is to pip Haverfordwest to top of the standings who have already had a shaky start losing away to Aberystwyth on Friday night.
Colwyn Bay come into the game having not won since late November which was against today’s opponents Penybont in a thrilling 2-1 home victory, can they recreate this result and pick up a vital three points?
Star man Udi Akpan (four goals in all of his last 4 matches at home) will be looking to inflict the same damage onto the Bont and steer the seagulls back into good form.
Penybont’s manager Rhys Griffiths believes he has the right squad now to push on into the second phase and finally get one over Colwyn Bay on their own turf, they sit just three points away from Haverfordwest.
Veteran striker Chris Venables, who’s had an impressive 9-months so far at Bont with 13 goals in 16 outings, will be looking to sink his teeth into the Bay backline and secure the blues their first points of phase two.
Both teams have been on a two-week break since Phase One and Colwyn Bay played a friendly against Bala Town. They won 1-0 at Maes Tegid thanks to a goal from Matty Hill. Bont hosted Cymru South outfit Taffs Well last week but the scoreline was not disclosed.
