Swansea University and Cardiff Dracs share the points in a closely fought match

Both teams had their fair share of chances throughout the match and despite the Cardiff Dracs goal-keeper, Sam Goodwin being substituted due to injury after 45 minutes they managed to come away from the Swansea University Sports Centre with a point.

The opening period of the match was evenly contested, with both teams looking to find their feet. Dylan Williams and Noah Osborne were pushing forwards from left and right back and causing a few problems to the Dracs’ defence.

The first real opportunity of the match fell to the away side as the ball was floated in from a corner, but the Cardiff Dracs centre back headed the ball just wide of the post.

The game carried on in the same vein, with neither team really dominating the match. Although, Swansea did start to string a few passes together in the centre of the pitch and were looking to play in behind the Dracs defence. Warren Hudson played a good ball over the top to the Swansea striker, but Sam Goodwin was alert to the danger and thwarted the Swansea attack.

After 37 minutes, the deadlock was finally broken as the ball was played over the top to Casey Coughlin but the Cardiff Dracs goal-keeper misjudged the flight of the ball and it was an easy finish for the Swansea number 9 to put the University side in front.

Minutes before half-time, the Cardiff Dracs keeper, Sam Goodwin had a nasty collision with a Swansea player. Just before half-time he was then replaced with outfield player, Jordan Fofana who stepped in goal.

Cardiff Dracs started the second half strongly and created a few opportunities. And after 59 minutes an excellent through ball was played to Rameer Outlaw who took a few touches, composed himself and placed it calmly past Luca Smith in goal.

A few moments later they had another great chance that would’ve put them in the lead, but they couldn’t quite direct the effort towards goal.

Swansea University were looking for their second goal of the match and after 85 minutes the Swansea players were shouting for a penalty as the Swans attacker went down in the box, but there was nothing given for the home side.

The University side had a few chances right at the end of the second half, but Jordan Fofana put in a solid display in the middle of the sticks to keep his side level.

Both teams share the spoils in the end in what was probably a fair result between two good sides. Swansea University remain top of the Ardal South West League as Cardiff Dracs climb up a stop to fifth place.
