TNS player ratings v Airdrieonians: One scores 4 and several 5s

Ben Clark celebrates his goal for TNS against Airdrieonians in the SPFL Trust Trophy

TNS were the architects of their own downfall as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Airdrieonians in the SPFL Trust Trophy.

Ben Clark gave The New Saints the perfect start with a 12th-minute opener but Airdrie never looked back after getting back on level terms. Nikolay Todrov scored after the hour mark after Liam McStravick equalised 10 minutes from Clark’s opener.

Here’s how we rated the TNS players against Airdrie in the Scottish Challenge Cup:

TNS player ratings

Connor Roberts – 5

Easy to say in hindsight, but he should have stayed on his line for McStravick’s goal.

Chris Marriott – 6

Started off well with everything coming down the left but then Airdrieonians found joy down there. Good delivery from set pieces though.

Josh Pask – 4

A reckless decision to foul O’Connor in the box. He was always second-best in that duel, and left the referee with no decision but to award a penalty.

Danny Davies – 6

Gave the ball away a little bit too cheaply for McStravick’s goal.

Josh Daniels – 7

A lot of Airdrie’s threat came down his side. Made a good block. His attacking play was decent.

Danny Redmond – 7 (subbed off, 72)

Back in Scotland with a point to prove. Did well as TNS went through the centre for a few attacks.

Leo Smith – 6

Could he have done better for McStravick’s goal? Perhaps pushed off the ball a little too easily.

Ben Clark – 7 (subbed off, 72)

A TNS goal scorer. Took his goal well being in the right place at the right time.

Jordan Williams – 6 (subbed off, 78)

Had the beating of the Airdrie full-backs a few times in the first half. He went off the boil though in the second.

Brad Young – 6

Missed a golden chance to open the scoring. Spurned an opportunity from a few yards out.

Rory Holden – 5 (subbed off, 78)

His name wasn’t heard that much. TNS opted to go down the opposite flank for most of their attacks.

Declan McManus (subbed on, 72) – 6

Had one opportunity and went near with it.

Dan Williams (subbed on, 72) – 5

Came on, but couldn’t do much.

Adrian Cieslewicz (subbed on, 78) – N/A

Put a decent cross into the box but couldn’t impact as he would have liked.

Jordan Marshall (subbed on, 78) – N/A

Ryan Brobbel (subbed on, 90) – N/A

A little too late to come on and impact the game.
