Cardiff City star Rhianne Oakley kisses the Adran Trophy

Cardiff City Women’s Rhianne Oakley hailed their victory over Swansea City Women in the Genero Adran Trophy as an “amazing” feeling.

The Bluebirds came from 1-0 down to beat the Swans 5-1 to pick up their first-ever League Cup at Penybont’s SDM Glass Stadium on Sunday.

The win completed an Adran League and Cup double for Cardiff, who secured the title with a 4-0 win over their local rivals to claim their second successive crown last month.

“It feels amazing, we have worked so far for the past few weeks after the league has finished to prepare for this game,” Oakley told Sgorio after the final.

“We didn’t have a great first half but we knew at half-time we knew what we needed to do in the second half and got five goals. It’s exactly what we needed to do to win the Cup.”

Goals from Megan Bowen, Molly Kehoe, Oakley and Eliza Collie’s double helped turn the final in Cardiff’s favour after Monet Legall’s wonderful first-half finish had put Swansea in the driving seat.

Cardiff City’s hunt for a treble

Kehoe made it 2-1 after Eliza Collie’s effort had been saved by Swansea goalkeeper Chelsea Herbert and the forward, who is in her first season with the club after joining up with the Bluebirds from Sunset FC in the Cayman Islands last summer, said: “It was obviously great to get the second goal. It was really good to score five goals as a team and different goalscorers.

“We knew we didn’t have a great first half and we had to pick it up and play how we know we can play. So that’s what we did in the second half.”

Wrexham now stand in the way of Cardiff’s quest for a historic treble. Iain Derbyshire’s side take on The Red Dragons in the final of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup at Rodney Parade in Newport on Sunday, May 5.

“It would be great to win the treble in my first season with Cardiff,” Kehoe added.

“We just have to work the next two weeks and hopefully we win the next Cup game.”
