Connah’s Quay star attracting transfer interest from EFL and TNS

Connah’s Quay star Josh Williams is attracting interest from EFL clubs and TNS, Y Clwb Pêl-droed understands. 

Williams has been a key player for the Nomads this season with four goals and four assists in 28 league games. The 19-year-old was named the star of the match in the 2023/24 Welsh Cup final, denying TNS a domestic treble with a fine effort at Rodney Parade.

He has emerged as a key player for Connah’s Quay since Neil Gibson succeeded Craig Harrison in Flintshire. Under Gibson’s stewardship, he has made 69 appearances, notching up 10 assists and six goals.

The Connah’s Quay academy graduate is also a two-time Wales C international and started in the 1-0 win over England C in March.

When asked about Williams’ potential, his manager Neil Gibson responded:”I firmly believe if you’re old enough that you’re good enough.

“For Josh, the ceiling is quite high for where he can get to because he works so hard. Hopefully he will go and fulfil that potential and we’ll be helping him along the way as much as we can.”

Connah’s Quay now faces the task of persuading Williams to remain at the Essity Stadium for next season, with TNS offering the possibility of Champions League football. League One and League Two in the English Football League are also believed to be keen.

According to TransferMarkt, He is represented by FullNinety Sports Management, whose clients include Leicester City’s Harry Souttar and Coventry City’s Liam Kitching.

Mike Wilde departs Connah’s Quay on a high

Connah’s Quay already know that Michael Wilde is departing the club this summer. The 40-year-old said in a post on April 9: “Second in WP, European qualification secured again, and Welsh Cup finalists.

“Thanks to @NeilGibson22 & management team, all the players over the last two seasons, since returning!

“Last few games as a @the_nomads player, including Park Hall & WC final… then onto the next.”

Wilde departs the Essity Stadium following a second spell with the club. He was a member of their back-to-back title wins before departing for Flint Town United.

He has made 207 appearances scoring 102 goals and getting 26 assists. The experienced striker also won the JD Welsh Cup and the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Another player who is leaving is one-time Wales C international Jordan Davies. It was announced in January that he would sign a contract with Scottish Championship club Greenock Morton. It is a two-year deal that will run until June 2026.

Davies will be joining a club that will be playing in the second tier of Scottish football next season. Greenock will finish anywhere from fifth where they currently are to seventh. They finished behind Airdrieonians who beat TNS in the SPFL Trust Trophy, and can get overtaken
