Swansea City have announced Jamie Sherwood as their new manager for the Women’s team.

It was announced that Chris Church would be leaving the Swans following a spell in charge as interim boss, a role he held from  October 2023. Church replaced Ceri Phillips who departed by mutual consent, but they never appointed a permanent successor until now.

Sherwood makes a return to Welsh domestic football after managing the Taffs Well men’s team. He is known well in the Women’s game for the role he played at Yeovil Town.

He was instrumental in getting them to the Women’s Super League as League Champions. Since then he’s coached in Canada with Electric City, as well as holding roles at Cardiff & Vale College and Newport County in education roles.

“It’s a huge club, with a rich tradition and heritage, not only in Welsh football but throughout the UK, so to be here as first-team manager is exciting, it’s an honour and a privilege,” said Sherwood on the official club website.

“There is a little bit of work to do to get this club back to where we firmly believe it should be, and I can’t wait to get started.

“This club has won silverware throughout the seasons, and throughout its history. So, for the club to be two seasons, it gives us a chance to re-energise the squad and make sure we are ready to compete on all levels on and off the pitch.

“We want to become the best we can be as individuals. If we become the best we can be, the group will become stronger and the club will cement its place where it is supposed to be again; at the top of the table.”

Sherwood will be tasked with stopping the dominance of Cardiff City, who this season won a domestic treble. The Swans suffered defeat at the hands of the Bluebirds in the Adran Trophy and finished nine points behind them in the Adran Premier.
