Penllyn, Edeyrnion and Uwchaled clubs see plenty of success!

Bala Town celebrate a goal against Newtown

It has been an extremely successful season for the four Clubs of Penllyn, Edeyrnion and Uwchaled with European qualification, Cup Final appearances and League titles for Bala Town, CPD Llanuwchllyn, Corwen and CPD Cerrigydrudion.

In the JD Cymru Premier, the Maes Tegid outfit saw a huge overhaul of players following the end of the 2022/23 season ahead of Colin Caton’s 21st year at the helm at Bala Town.

A solid start to the campaign secured them a spot once again in the Championship Conference and also an appearance in the JD Welsh Cup Semi Finals against eventual Cup winners Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Ending the season in a comfortable third position, the Lakesiders secured their place in the UEFA Conference League at the start of April, returning to the competition after a year’s absence and will find out their possible opponents in mid-June with Bala highly likely to be unseeded in the draw.

Five miles across Llyn Tegid and it has been an excellent year for Sion Tudor and his Llanuwchllyn men. Finishing third in the Ardal North East, the Club have booked themselves a spot in the Ardal North Playoff Final following licencing success and will be taking on either Llay Welfare at Maes Tegid on Saturday afternoon.

Since February, Llan ended their season with a magnificent run of results with fifteen wins in eighteen games with ten consecutive victories as well as an appearance in the FAW Amateur Trophy Semi Final against Cefn Cribwr.

Also history was made as Llanuwchllyn started a Reserves side for the first time for the 2023/24 campaign. The youthful Uwchllyn side matched their senior side securing third spot in the FAW Reserves League Central and have a Cup Final to look forward to as they face either Bow Street or Llandrindod Wells in the League Cup Final next weekend at Newtown.

Down the River Dee and there were more celebrations at War Memorial Park. Corwen were crowned champions of the North East Wales Premier Division last week with two games to spare and will be bouncing back up to the Ardal Leagues after relegation the previous year.

Striker Owen Cordiner has had an impressive campaign with 23 goals scored in the league alone which has been imperative to Corwen’s promotion push.

It was almost a promotion for CPD Cerrigydrudion in the North Wales Coast East Premier Division too as they concluded the 2023/24 season in second place. It was a four-way fight for the title between Penmaenmawr Phoenix, Llandudno Junction, NFA and Cerrig up until the final month, before a title-winning clash between NFA and Cerrig in the penultimate fixture saw the Rhyl based outfit narrowly take the title.

The Uwchaled squad significantly built on the previous season with Tom Jones proving an important figure notching 22 goals in 18 starts and will be favourable for promotion next term.

The start of Bala Town’s yearly Bragdy Cup tournament will also get underway on Tuesday, 28th May with the final taking place on Friday, 21st June.
