Three stars who shined as Penybont make huge statement against TNS in front of 1,000+ crowd

Penybont issued a statement in front of a crowd of over 1,000 fans as they picked up a huge 2-1 win against The New Saints.

Clayton Green headed the home side in front before a well taken equaliser from Adam Wilson for TNS.

Veteran forward Chris Venables crashed home the winner late on to the delight of the Bont Bank.

The historic win marks the first time Penybont have won against TNS whilst also ending the champions 46 game unbeaten run in the league.

Here are three players that shined in the win as they remain top of the JD Cymru Premier table.

Mael Davies

You could see at full-time just how much Mael Davies had given to help Penybont get across the line. The 25-year old even got his head on the final clearance to make sure of all three points.

He was full of energy all night down the right hand side offering an attacking threat whilst remaining defensively solid.

TNS had no real success going down his side of the field and he coped well even having to come up against the dangerous Sion Bradley in the final moments of the game.

In terms of going forward he was brilliant all night. He delivered a few dangerous crosses and every time he had the opportunity to deliver it felt like the visitors were under real pressure.

The full back delivered an excellent cross for the opening goal, finding Clayton Green to head home.

Davies looks like he could play a major role in what’s shaping up to be a potential title charge from The Bont.

Nathan Wood

Nathan Wood is back at Penybont on loan from parent club Newport County and appears to be really enjoying his football.

He showed all the quality he possesses in the victory and caused real issues for the TNS defence alongside doing the defensive side of the game to win possession multiple times.

Life at Rodney Parade hasn’t gone the way he would have liked but the experiences gained having played full-time looks to have benefited him massively.

He has the ability to win games on his own at times and there is no doubt he’ll be a vital figure for the remainder of the campaign if Penybont are to push the champions in their attempts to regain their crown.

A pinpoint delivery under pressure onto the head of Chris Venables was the game winning moment that sent the home crowd into raptures.

You could see how much that win meant to him as he celebrated every goal, tackle and clearance like his life depended on it.

Chris Venables

He may have only been on the field for only 17 minutes in total but the 39-year old showed exactly why he’s still as dangerous as ever.

With the clock ticking towards the 80th minute the towering forward stood on the touch line ready to give a much needed boost to a side that were under pressure.

And that’s exactly what he gave them. He’s a defenders nightmare and throws his body at everything that comes his way including that Nathan Wood cross.

He hassled the TNS back line and was the man who rose highest to crash home a bullet header off the crossbar to win the game in the 85th minute.

There is no doubt that Venables will come up with more important goals this season, ones that in the end could see them potentially lift a title.
