Ollie Hulbert late show sees Barry Town twist the knife on Aberystwyth Town

Barry Town left it late to secure victory over Aberystwyth at Jenner Park. 

The Linnets were the side that had more of the game and the better chances but need a late goal to win the game.

The first half saw both side had chances and both keepers were needed to ensure that the first half remained goalless. Barry pressure Aber more in the second half and saw serval chances missed. Ollie Hulbert eventually broke the deadlock in the 85th minute after having multiple chances to score himself.

Barry move into seventh in the JD Cymru Premier table leaping above Caernarfon and two points behind Newtown in sixth. For Aber they remain bottom on four points below Briton Ferry on goal difference.

Ollie Hulbert created the game’s first chance early on when he drove forward into the Aber box. He sent a shot at goal but it went just over.

Barry crafted another chance this time from a long throw into the box. Sam Snaith saw the ball 2go just over his head but Hulbert was following in behind and his close range header was superbly saved by Dave Jones.

The visitors then had their first chance at goal when Christoph Aziamale forced a good save from Barry’s Luc Rees.

Hulbert went close again as he saw two chances go close. First he saw his shot blocked and then following up on the lose ball Jones saved his effort from close range.

New JD Cymru Premier format revealed as league moves to 16 teams

Into the second half and Barry started to turn up the pressure in search of a goal. Snaith saw a shot blocked and the loose ball went to Eliot Richards who hit a powerful shot straight at Jones.

Mike George in support of the Barry attack sent a cross into the Aber penalty box. Aber cleared to the edge of the area but the ball found Richards who fired at goal but into the hands of Jones.

Hulbert was causing Aber problems again as he worked into the box to set up Richards. Richards shot was blocked and it fell to Snaith who didn’t connect cleanly and Jones saved.

With seven minutes to go, Barry brought on Ieuan Owen and the Barry youngster set up Hulbert for the winning goal. Owen sent the ball across goal where it was met by Hulbert. It took Hulbert two go’s, his first effort hitting the post but he reacted first and hit the winner in from close range.
