Wales predicted XI vs Iceland: Swansea City hero returns after 682 days

Brennan Johnson of Wales in action. Wales v Turkey in the UEFA Nations League at Cardiff City Stadium on the 6th September 2024.

Wales continue their Nations League campaign this Friday with a trip to Reykjavik to take on Ólafur Davíð Jóhannesson’s Iceland.

After a positive start with four points from fixtures against Turkey and Montenegro, Craig Bellamy will be hoping to steer the nation to the top of the group with a potential Euro 2028 play-off spot on the line.

Here is a look at the potential line-up that could feature for Bellamy in his third game as manager.

Danny Ward

There is a sense that it’s still all to play for with the number one shirt, with Danny Ward now set to battle it out with new man Karl Darlow for the opportunity. It’s expected that both will get the chance to plead their case in the upcoming games similar to the last international window.

Connor Roberts

Roberts looks to be enjoying life under Bellamy, a man he knows well from his Burnley days. It’s expected he will remain in his full-back role that looks to have given him more freedom going forward.

Joe Rodon

Rodon has been a mainstay in the Wales defence over recent years and is now edging towards the 50 cap mark for his country. He played a vital role in them claiming four points in the last camp and will be hoping for similar defensive solidity this time around.

Ben Davies of Wales in action. Wales v Turkey in the UEFA Nations League at Cardiff City Stadium on the 6th September 2024.

Ben Davies

Davies is expected to captain the side in the absence of the injured Aaron Ramsey. The most experienced member of the squad he heads into this camp having played 88 times for his nation. He hasn’t featured regularly at club level over recent months but is always a solid addition at the back for Wales.

Neco Williams

Another young player in the Wales camp that at just 23-years old is nearing the 50 cap mark. Always a threat going forward he can always be trusted to fulfil his defensive duties.

Jordan James

He will be without Ethan Ampadu with both having became regulars in the Wales midfield over recent months despite their young age. At just 20-years old James has already made 13 appearances for Wales and should be in line for two more in this camp.

Joe Allen

Joe Allen has made a remarkable u-turn on his international career and could be set to put on the shirt for the first time in 682 days. His last appearance was Wales final group stage game at the 2022 World Cup and he now is hoping to play a role in helping them reach the 2026 addition of the tournament.

Harry Wilson

One of the standout performers in the last camp including that sensational strike away in Montenegro. The new system seems to be one that will really allow Wilson to flourish and he’s set to have a major role under Bellamy.

Brennan Johnson

The Spurs man has been on a hot streak for his club scoring six goals in his last six appearances. Bellamy will be hoping he can continue that form in a Wales shirt, where it’s yet to have been seen since his emergence on the international stage.

Sorba Thomas

During the last international break Thomas was sensational in both fixtures posing a real danger to the Turkey defence with his pace and constant pressure before helping the team get over the line in Montenegro with a hard working defensive display. He may have forced himself into a starting spot under Bellamy, something not many would have seen coming before a ball was kicked.

Kieffer Moore

Moore could be a vital figure in both boxes for Wales with the aerial threat Iceland pose. During their last fixture with Turkey they looked most threatening from set pieces, including scoring their only goal of the 3-1 defeat from a corner.
