Trefelin midfielder Charlie Corsby has been forced to retire after suffering a serious injury.
The 33-year-old joined the Cymru South club in the summer and made 16 appearances for them, scoring four goals, and registering an assist.
Last time out in a 5-2 against Camrian United, Corsby suffered a knee injury and was forced to come off. He has since decided to call time on his career following his latest setback, but is now looking forward to the ‘next challenge’.
Charlie Corsby’s statement
In a statement posted on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Having been diagnosed with another long-term knee injury, I have taken the decision to officially hang up my boots.
“I would like to personally thank everyone involved at Trefelin for helping me find a love for the game again. What a fantastic club filled with amazing people.
“Despite the pain, I leave as a player remembering why I started. I’m looking forward to the next challenge.”
It brings to an end a career that was mainly spent with Cardiff Met. He joined them when they were known as UWIC back in 2009, and rose through the leagues with the Archers, helping them go from the Welsh League Division Three all the way in to Europe.
Following their promotion to the Cymru Premier in 2016, Corsby made 142 top-flight appearances for the Met. Corsby played in both legs as Met went out on away goals in the UEFA Europa League to Progres Niederkorn.
During his time as a player at Cyncoed Campus he also lifted the Nathaniel MG Cup, appearing in the 2018/19 final in which they beat Cambrian United as a result of an Adam Roscrow brace.
