Wales predicted XI v Iceland: Craig Bellamy makes 5 changes from solid Türkiye draw

Following a 0-0 draw away to Türkiye Wales head back to The Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday night to complete their UEFA Nations League campaign against Iceland.

The Nordic nation held Wales to a 2-2 draw in Rejkavic back in October fighting back from two goals down following goals from Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson.

Craig Bellamy’s side currently sit second in group B4 with only a victory on Tuesday night being enough to give them any chance of promotion to League A. They will also need a favourable result from the fixture between Türkiye and Montenegro.

A second place finish would see them feature in a Nations League play-off final against a League A side with the winner securing a spot in the top division for the next Nations League campaign.

Here is a look at the starting team Bellamy could field in the final fixture with changes to be expected from Saturday’s trip to Kayseri.

Danny Ward

With Karl Darlow featuring between the sticks against Türkiye it’s expected that Danny Ward will start against Iceland as they continue their battle for the starting spot. Ward will have to follow up on Darlow’s clean sheet performance that saw Karem Aktürkoglu miss an 88th minute penalty for the hosts.

Connor Roberts

It’s expected that Connor Roberts will remain in what is a relatively settled backline, although Ipswich Town man Wes Burns could provide fresh legs down the right-hand side.

Ben Davies

Ben Davies will lead the team out as skipper once more in what will be his 92nd cap levelling with goalkeeping great Neville Southhall.

Joe Rodon of Wales in action. Iceland v Wales in the UEFA Nations League at Laugardalsvöllur Stadium on the 11th October 2024.

Joe Rodon

Joe Rodon continued his run of stellar defensive performances in Saturdays fixture and will be rewarded with his 50th cap against Iceland on Tuesday.

Neco Williams

Neco Williams hasn’t featured regularly at club level over recent weeks but always seems to have a bundle of energy in every International appearance and is likely to complete what has been a solid Wales backline.

Jordan James

Jordan James returned to the midfield following suspension and it’s likely the youngster will remain in the starting spot as he builds his international experience.

Joe Allen

Joe Allen could feature alongside his youthful partner giving vast international experience. If he is to feature it would be his 75th cap for his nation.

Harry Wilson

The danger man for Wales at the moment that has the talent to light up a game and make a moment out of nothing. Wilson will be aiming to fire Wales to League A in the Nations League continuing his fine run of form for both club and country.

David Brooks of Wales ahead of kick off. Iceland v Wales in the UEFA Nations League at Laugardalsvöllur Stadium on the 11th October 2024.

David Brooks

A late substitute for Wales on Saturday, David Brooks could make up a dangerous attack with fresh legs for the final group fixture. He has the potential to be a real threat under the new Bellamy regime that looks to play attacking front foot football.

Daniel James

Daniel James came off the bench at half-time on Saturday and with him building up recent minutes with Leeds United could be set to start on Tuesday night. James will always be a threat due to the serious pace he possesses and is looking to right the wrong of that spot kick miss against Poland.

Liam Cullen

Liam Cullen was a second-half substitute in the Türkiye fixture but could be in line to start this fixture as Bellamy aims to field fresh legs in the front line. There are also calls for Cardiff City star Rubin Colwill to feature but it appears he still has work to do in order to impress the new boss.
