Penybont injury blow confirmed as Newport County star shares message
Penybont have been dealt a blow after Nathan Wood confirmed he suffered an injury.
The 27-year-old is on loan at the SDM Glass Stadium for the 2024/25 season, but will be out for the foreseeable future after coming off against Cardiff Met.
He was substituted off for Owen Pritchard in the 40th minute in a game in which Penybont squandered a two-goal lead against the Archers. Replays show that Wood suffered his injury off of the ball with no one around him.
He had to be helped off by teammate Joe Woodiwiss and the Penybont physio, before taking his place among the substitutes bench. Newport and Penybont will now have to communicate about his recovery.

“Gutted to be out for the foreseeable with a fracture and ligament damage,” said Wood in an Instagram post.
“First long term one I’ve had in my career but I’ll do everything to be back as soon as possible better and stronger. Big things to come from this group in 2025. Thank you for all the messages and well wishes.”
In response to his message, teammate Billy Borge said: “Gutted for you my brother. You will be missed massively, rest up. Back stronger.”
Since returning to Penybont for a second spell, Wood has been a key part in them reaching the top of the Cymru Premier, before they were displaced by TNS. He’s had registered eight assists and four goals in 15 league games.
Wood is the latest player to enter the treatment room at Penybont. Dan Jefferies hasn’t been out since early September, whilst neither Gabe Kircough and Mael Davies played against the Met.
Penybont have a game scheduled against Connah’s Quay on Saturday, January 4, before rounding off Phase One with a trip to Latham Park to face Newtown on Saturday, January 11. Their draw with Met along with TNS’ win against Connah’s Quay has put the reigning champions a point ahead of them.
