A Kelland Absalom own goal cancelled out Adam Roscrow’s first half strike to see the points shared between Cardiff Met and Haverfordwest County.

Both teams entered today’s match hoping to end their respective winless runs. The hosts entered the match having not won in their last three, having last won against Caernarfon 3-2 on April 8. The visitors, on the other hand, were on a four game winless runs dating back to when they beat the Archers on February 21.

It took until the 21st minute for either team to have a big chance, and it went the way of the hosts. In a crowded area, the ball fell to Adam Roscrow six yards out, however Zac Jones was swiftly off his line to smother any chance for the Met forward.

In a half of very few chances, Cardiff Met were gifted their opening. A clear lapse in communication in the Haverfordwest defence saw goalkeeper Zac Jones clear the ball straight at team mate Iori Hunphreys which fell kindly into the path of Adam Roscrow who couldn’t miss the open goal from a yard out.

The home side looked comfortable keeping the ball during the first half, forcing Haverfordwest to play the ball long, a tactic rarely used by the Bluebirds this season.

As the second half began, Haverfordwest were able to keep hold of possession far more often than in the first.

Despite this, with 64 minutes on the clock Corey Shephard gave the ball away in midfield allowing Jac Clay to get a shot at goal. However, he was denied by the Golden Glove winning Zac Jones.

Just minutes later it was Haverfordwest who would create the next chance, which they made no mistake in converting. Jacob Owen delivered the ball into the box, which Kyle Kenniford sent goal bound. The ball ricocheted off the post before finding its way into the back of the net via Kelland Absalom’s leg.

With 15 minutes left to play, the visitors had a chance to take the lead. Some great play from Greg Walters on the left hand side resulted in a cross towards Ben Ahmun in the middle. He managed to get a shot away, however it was straight at Absalom in the Met goal who was able to save comfortably.

Five minutes later it was Met who had the opportunity to turn one point into three. Tom Vincent found himself on the end of a cross, his header looked destined to find the bottom corner.

However, once again Jones was able to get down swiftly to deny the opportunity before Jake Morris fired the rebound over the bar from ten yards.

This would turn out to be the final chance of an entertaining second half. Cardiff Met travel to Caernarfon for their next fixture on the 19th of April. Haverfordwest County host the champions TNS after being already guaranteed a third-placed finish.
