Cymru Premier figure takes over struggling Scottish Football club – reports

Haverfordwest County chairman Rob Edwards has reportedly expanded his football interests after reportedly completing a takeover of Scottish club Hamilton Academical.
According to reports from the Daily Record, Edwards has replaced former owner Seref Zengin, securing a 97.5% controlling stake in the club. The move marks a significant change in ownership for the Accies and provides immediate stability both on and off the pitch.
Immediate Financial Relief for Players and Staff
One of the most important outcomes of the takeover is the swift resolution of financial uncertainty at Hamilton. Players and staff are now expected to receive their outstanding December wages, easing concerns that had been building around the club.
Hamilton Academical’s Current Position
Hamilton Academical currently sit eighth in Scotland’s third tier, with the new ownership ushering in hope of a more stable and ambitious future as the season progresses.
The Accies were relegated from the Scottish Championship to League One after a significant points deduction.
In October, Hamilton Academical were handed significant sanctions by the SPFL, including a points deduction, after the club breached league regulations by paying players while operating under a transfer embargo.
Edwards’ Growing Football Portfolio
Rob Edwards has been chairman of Haverfordwest County since 2019 and has overseen a period of notable progress at the Welsh club, including two qualifications for European competition.
In late 2025, Edwards spoke publicly about his ambition to attract further investment at Haverfordwest County, with the long-term goal of establishing a pathway towards full-time football.

Away from the football pitch, Edwards also holds a significant stake in Ohio Valley Wrestling, highlighting his growing influence across the wider sports industry.
With this latest acquisition, Edwards continues to build a diverse sporting portfolio, as Hamilton Academical begin a new chapter under his ownership.
