Flint Town United have confirmed the signing of former Liverpool defender Lee Jonas on an 18-month contract.
The 21-year-old centre-back joins the Cymru Premier side following his release from Liverpool and a short trial spell with Stockport County. Jonas impressed during a two-week trial at the Essity Stadium, earning a deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.
The move represents a fresh start for the young defender, who is looking to reignite his career in the Welsh top flight.

Lee Fowler: “He Has Huge Potential”
Flint manager Lee Fowler was quick to praise the defender after securing his signature.
“He has huge potential, and that’s the reason, as a club, we’ve tied him down on an 18-month deal,” said Fowler on the official club website.
“There’s still work for him to do, but the potential is there in a big way.”
Fowler also highlighted the importance of rebuilding Jonas’ confidence after he departed Liverpool.
“It was clear from the first session that the most important thing I needed to do was get a smile back on his face and get his love back for football.
“Secondly, it was about giving him a place where he can feel at home and feel wanted.
“You tick those two boxes and his natural ability will come out even more, and that’s what it’s done.”

Lee Jonas’ Career So Far
Jonas began his youth career with Everton before making the switch to Liverpool at Under-12 level. He signed his first professional contract in 2021 and penned a new deal with the Anfield club in 2022.
During his time at Liverpool, Jonas:
- Made 38 appearances in Premier League 2 (under-21 competition)
- Featured regularly in the UEFA Youth League
- Played in the EFL Trophy against senior opposition, including Blackpool F.C. and Crewe Alexandra F.C.
- Scored five goals in 31 appearances at Under-18 level
Internationally, Jonas has earned three caps for England Under-19s, playing alongside talents such as Kobbie Mainoo and Adam Wharton.
Previous Experience in Wales
This is not Jonas’ first experience of football in Wales. He previously featured in Newport in 2021 against an under-18 side, where he was also handed the captain’s armband, an early indication of his leadership qualities.
Jonas comes from a sporting family. He is the nephew of Olympic boxer Natasha Jonas, who made history as the first British female boxer to compete at the Olympic Games in London 2012.

Flint Town United: A Platform Back to the EFL?
Should his registration be processed in time, Jonas could make his debut against Cardiff Met on Saturday, February 21.
Flint Town United currently sit just four points above Bala Town, who occupy the second and final relegation spot in the Cymru Premier table. Jonas’ arrival could prove crucial in the club’s fight for survival.
Jonas’ signing comes shortly after the departure of Isaac Lee, who joined Shrewsbury Town during the January transfer window.
Lee’s move to the EFL highlights how Flint Town United can act as a stepping stone back into the full-time professional game, something Jonas will undoubtedly be aiming for as he looks to rebuild momentum in his career.
