Cwmbran Town have pulled off an ambitious coup with the signing of a former Wrexham, Bristol City and Swansea City striker.
The Crows recently ushered in a new era at Cwmbran Stadium, with Brandon Simpson replacing Dale Clark in the managerial hot seat.
With the Welsh transfer window opening on June 15, Simpson has wasted little time making his mark. His first major move in the market sees the arrival of Football League cult hero Lee Trundle, who joins the club from Pure Swansea.

Swansea City icon’s 10-year stint in Welsh domestic football
Trundle’s recent years in football have underlined both his longevity and enduring influence on the Welsh game.
The Liverpool-born forward, who will turn 50 in October, resumed his playing career in 2016 with Llanelli Town after a three-year hiatus at the age of 40. Since then, he has continued to feature regularly across senior football, extending a career that many had long expected to conclude.
During his time in the Welsh pyramid, Trundle has enjoyed notable success. He was part of the Pure Swansea side that won the Ardal South West title and reached the Ardal League Cup final, where they were narrowly beaten by Ardal South East champions Caerphilly Athletic.
Last season, he recorded two goals and two assists in 12 league appearances, finishing the campaign with four goals in 17 matches after an early-season move from Trefelin. His spell at Trefelin had previously seen him in excellent form, as he registered 21 goals and six assists in 34 games, also helping the club reach the Tier Two League Cup final.
At Mumbles Rangers, his progress was disrupted by injury, but before that he remained a popular and influential figure during his time at Ammanford, where he returned an impressive 33 goals in 71 appearances.
Earlier in his career, Trundle played a key role in Llanelli Town’s rise from Welsh League Division Three (then the fourth tier) to the Cymru Premier. He has also featured for Haverfordwest County and Trefelin, contributing to further promotion success with the latter.
Cwmbran Town’s newest signing’s Football League career with Wrexham beginnings
Wrexham were the club that first gave Trundle his opportunity in the Football League, with manager Brian Flynn signing him after an impressive spell at Rhyl in the then League of Wales.
The forward went on to spend two-and-a-half seasons at the Racecourse Ground, where he scored 27 goals in 94 appearances. His form subsequently earned him a move to Swansea City, with Flynn once again playing a key role in bringing him to South Wales for the next chapter of his career.
It was at Swansea that he is most fondly remembered and most widely admired. His skill and flair for showboating brought him into the mainstream spotlight, with regular appearances on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM, while his goalscoring record was equally impressive. He reached double figures in each of his four seasons with the Swans, playing a key role in their promotion to League One after netting 22 goals in 42 appearances. In total, he scored 86 goals in 173 games during his first spell at the club.
In 2007, Bristol City made a £1 million move for his services, but he struggled to settle at Ashton Gate and failed to make a sustained impact. He was subsequently sent out on loan to Leeds United, and later returned briefly to Swansea. His time with the Robins yielded eight goals in 62 appearances, though he did feature in their run to the Championship play-off final.
He remained in Wales thereafter, joining Neath and helping them qualify for European competition. However, the club’s eventual demise led him back into the EFL with Preston North End in 2012, although his time there was limited to just two appearances.
Following that, he had a spell in non-league football with Marine before initially retiring, only to later end his hiatus and return to the game.
