It’s all change in the Cymru North this season, with three new teams joining the division, Bala Town dropping down from the Cymru Premier, and a slightly revised league format.

The champions will earn automatic promotion to the Cymru Premier. However, the runners-up will face the second-placed side from the Cymru South in a play-off, with the winners then taking on the team that finishes 14th in the Cymru Premier for a place in the top flight.

Last season, only one club was relegated to accommodate the expansion of the Cymru Premier to 16 teams. This season, though, three teams will drop out of the division, meaning there is little room for complacency at either end of the table.

The bookmakers have already priced up the title race, and there are few surprises among the favourites and outsiders.

Bala Town tipped for immediate return with Bangor City 1876 just behind

An impressive summer of recruitment goes some way to explaining why the Lakesiders have been installed as the early favourites for the Cymru North title.

They have retained the services of Cameron Ferguson, who enjoyed a prolific end to last season, while adding several players with the quality to make an impact in the Cymru Premier.

Title-winning trio Craig Lindfield, Rhys Williams and Jamie Cumming have all arrived from Colwyn Bay following the Seagulls’ championship-winning campaign.

Jake Phillips is another eye-catching addition after registering 11 assists for Flint Town United last season, making him one of the most creative Welsh players in the Cymru Premier.

Kyle Harrison also joins after helping Caernarfon Town lift the Welsh Cup last season, while Naim Arsan has returned to the club from Runcorn Linnets.

Bangor City return to the Cymru North after a dominant campaign in the Ardal North West, where they comfortably secured the league title. The Citizens also completed a memorable treble by lifting the Amateur Trophy and the Ardal North League Cup.

They have also enjoyed an impressive summer in the transfer market, bringing in players with proven promotion-winning pedigree. Blaine Hudson remains in the second tier after helping Airbus UK Broughton finish as runners-up in the Cymru North and win the WBS League Cup, while Guto Williams returns to the club after playing a key role in Holywell Town’s promotion campaign.

Max Purvis has also arrived after leaving Wrexham, having spent time on loan at Flint Town United last season. Another eye-catching addition is Haci Ozlu, who was Gresford Athletic’s standout performer and leading goalscorer during the last campaign.

Newtown, now under the management of Jay Owen are expected to be among the chasing pack. Rhyl 1879 are also fancied to challenge after an impressive campaign last season, which included a run to the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup.

Gresford Athletic tipped for relegation

At the other end of the table, Gresford Athletic have been installed as 50/1 outsiders for the title and are among the favourites for relegation. The departure of manager Dave Evans to Buckley Town, along with several players who have followed him, has done little to improve expectations.

Ruthin Town, who finished bottom of the Cymru North last season, were handed a reprieve after Flint Mountain were demoted several divisions. While they are rated more highly than Gresford, they are still widely expected to be involved in the relegation battle.

Holyhead Hotspur and Penrhyncoch are also tipped to be fighting to avoid the final relegation place. Penrhyncoch have lost key players Dan Owen and Tomos Evans to Aberystwyth Town, while there was little to separate the two sides last season, with just a single point between them in the final standings.
