Staggering Cymru Premier table shows how far all 16 clubs, including Caernarfon Town, Colwyn Bay, Haverfordwest, and Llandudno will travel

While supporters often focus on fixtures, title races and relegation battles, one factor that can quietly shape a Cymru Premier season is travel.

With the Cymru Premier expanding to 16 clubs for the 2026/27 season, we took a look at the estimated road miles each club is likely to cover during the initial home-and-away phase of the campaign.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, West Wales-based Haverfordwest County come out on top by some distance.

Located in the far west of Pembrokeshire, Haverfordwest County have the longest trips to almost every northern club.

Journeys to Caernarfon Town, Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Airbus UK Broughton, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Holywell Town are all among the longest away days in the top-flight of Welsh football.

Estimates suggest the Bluebirds could travel well over 2,000 road miles before the league even reaches its post-split stage.

Despite being much closer to the M4 corridor, clubs such as Barry Town United, Cardiff Met and Penybont also face significant travel commitments.

The addition of more north Wales clubs means regular journeys of 150 miles or more each way become part of the schedule.

Barry Town United, in particular, look set to be among the busiest travellers after Haverfordwest.

The New Saints travel the least in the Cymru Premier because of their relatively central position within the league’s geographic spread. Based in Oswestry on the England–Wales border, they sit between the north-west Welsh clubs and the more distant west and south-west sides, meaning they rarely face the extreme end-to-end journeys that affect teams like Haverfordwest County or Caernarfon Town.

Good road links via the A5 and the surrounding motorway network also help keep journeys more efficient. As a result, while TNS still travel significant distances over a season, they avoid being consistently on the “wrong end” of Wales, which keeps their overall mileage lower than any other club.

While clubs based in north Wales benefit from being relatively close to one another, they still face lengthy trips whenever they head south.

Caernarfon Town, Llandudno and Colwyn Bay all feature near the top of the travel rankings, largely because every visit to south Wales involves a substantial journey.

However, clusters of clubs in the north-east help reduce overall mileage compared to clubs based in the south-west.

One of the more unusual statistics comes courtesy of Connah’s Quay Nomads and Flint Town United.

With both clubs playing their home fixtures at the Essity Stadium, neither side will actually have to travel for their away fixture against the other.

It’s the only league fixture where an “away day” effectively means staying exactly where they are.

Outside of the Connah’s Quay Nomads–Flint Town United shared ground situation, the shortest trips in the Cymru Premier are mainly concentrated in two areas.

In north-east Wales, the tightest cluster includes fixtures involving Connah’s Quay, Flint, Airbus UK Broughton, Holywell Town and Colwyn Bay, with many journeys along the A55 corridor often under 30 miles.

In south-east Wales, clubs such as Barry Town United, Cardiff Met, Penybont, Briton Ferry Llansawel and Trefelin also form a relatively compact network where most away days fall into the 30–50 mile range.

These regional clusters create the only consistently short travel blocks in the league, while teams based in west Wales have almost no genuinely short trips at all.

  • Haverfordwest’s longest away journey is almost four times the length of some of the league’s shortest trips.
  • Connah’s Quay Nomads and Flint Town United are the only two clubs that won’t need to leave their home stadium for one of their away fixtures.
  • Excluding the Connah’s Quay Nomads vs Flint Town United fixture, which is effectively no travel at all due to both clubs sharing a stadium, the shortest away game in the Cymru Premier is likely Connah’s Quay Nomads or Flint Town United travelling to Airbus UK Broughton.
  • The six clubs furthest north collectively benefit from several short local derbies, helping offset some of the long journeys south.
  • Once the league splits after 30 matches, travel distances could increase even further depending on which clubs finish in the three Conferences

*Travel estimates are based on road-distance calculations between each club’s home ground. Actual mileage may vary slightly depending on the route taken and fixture scheduling.
