The Cymru North travel picture highlights just how geographically stretched the division is, with clubs spread across the full width of North Wales and Mid Wales, making for interesting weekly journeys.
While they all compete in the same league, the distances involved vary significantly depending on location, creating an uneven travel burden.
At the end of the scale, Holyhead Hotspur emerge as the division’s standout travellers, with their Anglesey base effectively guaranteeing some of the longest road journeys in the league. Every away fixture requires a crossing back onto the mainland before the real mileage even begins, and over the course of a season, that adds up to a substantial travel load compared with the rest of the division.
By contrast, clubs clustered around the Wrexham and Deeside corridor benefit from some of the shortest average away trips in the Cymru North. Brickfield Rangers, Gresford Athletic and Buckley Town are separated by relatively small distances, meaning their season is made up of frequent short hops rather than long-haul journeys.
Elsewhere, mid-Wales and Gwynedd sides such as Llanuwchllyn, Porthmadog and Caersws sit in a more demanding middle-to-upper tier for mileage. While not as isolated as Holyhead, their positions mean regular cross-country trips eastwards into Flintshire and Wrexham, often involving winding rural roads and some of the longest single journeys in the league.
On average, a Cymru North club will travel around 850 road miles across its 15 away league fixtures this season, equating to approximately 57 miles per one-way journey or 114 miles for a typical round trip. However, that league average masks a significant geographical divide.
The wider picture shows a league stretched across almost the full width of North Wales, where geography is not just a backdrop but a defining logistical factor. From coastal Anglesey to border towns near England, the Cymru North effectively operates as one of the most geographically demanding semi-professional leagues in the UK, with travel differences that would be unusual in more compact divisions.

- Brickfield Rangers – the shortest overall travel burden in the league, thanks to being surrounded by several nearby Flintshire/Wrexham opponents.
- Gresford Athletic, Buckley Town, Brickfield Rangers and Mold Alexandra sit in a compact zone where many fixtures are “short-hop” away days.
- Llanuwchllyn – Its rural Gwynedd location creates consistently long cross-country journeys.
- Clubs like Newtown, Caersws and Penrhyncoch sit in the middle—far enough from the north-east cluster and north-west cluster to rack up steady mileage.
- The A55 corridor quietly defines the league — many of the longest trips funnel through this single expressway, meaning congestion can significantly affect matchday timing even when mileage is similar.
