Former Cymru Premier and Newport County striker Will Evans is closing in on a six-figure move to Plymouth Argyle, with reports from two respected football journalists suggesting the deal is close to completion.
The Mansfield Town forward is expected to join the League One side in a transfer worth around £400,000 plus add-ons, as Plymouth look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
Mirror Football journalist Dan Marsh first reported that Evans was heading to Home Park, with everything in place for the move subject to a medical.
Those claims have since been backed up by Scottish football journalist Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports, who is reporting the same details regarding Evans’ imminent switch to the Pilgrims.
Plymouth are searching for a replacement for Lorent Tolaj and have moved quickly to bring Evans in as they look to add more firepower to their frontline.

Will Evans’ rise from Cymru Premier to the EFL
The 29-year-old has enjoyed an impressive rise through the football pyramid after making his name in Welsh domestic football.
Evans previously played for Bala Town and Cardiff Met, making more than 160 appearances across both clubs while contributing 63 goals and assists.
In March 2022, a stunning brace for Wales C against England C in Caernarfon put Evans firmly on the radar of Football League scouts.
His performances in the Cymru Premier earned him a move into the English Football League with Newport County in the summer of 2022.
The striker quickly adapted to life in the Football League, barely missing a game during his first season at Rodney Parade before producing a standout second campaign.
Evans scored 21 goals and registered three assists as Newport comfortably secured their League Two survival, further enhancing his reputation as one of the division’s most effective attacking players.
That form earned him a move to Mansfield Town, with the Stags paying around £200,000 to secure his services. Now, with Plymouth Argyle reportedly ready to complete a deal worth around £400,000 plus add-ons, Mansfield look set to double their investment on the forward.
Evans has established himself as a reliable EFL forward and continued to attract attention with his goalscoring record.
FA Cup goal against Arsenal highlighted Evans’ quality
Last season, Evans scored 11 goals for Mansfield Town, including a memorable strike against Premier League giants Arsenal in the FA Cup.
That moment helped showcase his ability on one of English football’s biggest stages and added to his growing reputation.
Now, a move worth around £400,000 could represent another major milestone in a career that began in Welsh football and has developed into a successful EFL journey.

Plymouth move awaits medical completion
With the agreement reportedly in place between the clubs, Evans’ transfer to Plymouth Argyle is expected to be completed once he passes his medical, which is said to be taking place on Friday.
The deal would see the former Cymru Premier attacker take another step forward in his career and underline the pathway available for Welsh-based players looking to progress into the Football League.
