Haverfordwest County sign Cardiff City midfielder

Haverfordwest County have signed Cardiff City midfielder Cody Twose on loan as they look to strengthen their squad following a difficult start to the Cymru Premier season.

The 19-year-old joins the Bluebirds having already made his first-team debut and represented Wales at both Under-17 and Under-19 level.

Twose has won eight Wales Under-19 caps, with his most recent appearance coming in March 2025. He was also handed the captain’s armband during a match against Czechia in February 2025.

The midfielder has a further 10 caps at Under-17 level.

His arrival at Haverfordwest comes after the club also brought Jacob Owen back to the Bridge Meadow on loan from The New Saints.

Cody Twose’s Cardiff City career

Twose signed his first professional contract with Cardiff City in July 2024 after progressing through the club’s academy.

He made his senior debut a month later, appearing as a second-half substitute in Cardiff’s Carabao Cup fixture against Southampton.

The occasion was a significant one for Twose, who had been with the club from a young age.

“I’ve been here since I was young, so it’s a massive moment for me to celebrate,” Twose said after the game.

“Playing against someone like Adam Lallana, who has massive experience, was good for me. I’ll certainly take that.”

His first senior start came in November 2025 when he featured in Cardiff’s 3-1 Vertu Trophy victory over Arsenal Under-21.

The loan move to Haverfordwest will allow Twose to gain further senior experience and regular first-team football.

Haverfordwest County manager Tony Pennock says Cody Twose is an “exciting prospect” after the Cardiff City midfielder joined the club on loan.

Pennock revealed Twose’s versatility was a key factor behind the move, with the youngster able to operate across midfield.

“Cody is an exciting prospect who has been at Cardiff City since he was nine.

“Cody can play throughout midfield and will add to our options now that Clayton Green is going to be unavailable for the next few months.

“He has represented Wales at several age groups, and this being his first loan will hopefully give him the experiences needed to progress his career.

“Thank you to Gavin Chesterfield and Lee Kendall at Cardiff City for their support in arranging this loan.”

Twose, meanwhile, says he is excited by the opportunity and believes he has made the right decision by joining Haverfordwest.

“I’m excited to join the club. There’s good quality in the group. Today’s session was really good, getting to know the boys, and I’m looking forward to taking it into the games now.

“I’ve been looking at a few moves, and this came up and I thought it was right for me.

“I think I’ve made the right decision, with the training today and the way the gaffer has spoken to me, and I’m really excited to get going.”

Haverfordwest County turn to Twose after difficult start

Haverfordwest County have endured a challenging opening to the league campaign and currently sit second from bottom after five matches.

They were beaten 2-0 by Llandudno in their most recent fixture and are yet to score in the league this season.

The Bluebirds have conceded 11 goals across their opening five games, leaving them in need of a response as they look to climb the table.

They host Trefelin on Monday, 31 August, with their opponents also still searching for their first league win of the campaign.

Twose’s arrival is therefore a timely addition for a Haverfordwest side seeking greater creativity and attacking threat.

Wales connection runs deep for Cody Twose

Twose comes from a footballing family, with his father Geraint Twose having previously played in the Cymru Premier for Llanelli Town and Rhayader Town.

Geraint Twose also spent 17 years working with the Cardiff City academy and was the club’s Lead Development Coach for players aged between 12 and 16 until 2013.

He later moved into coach education with the English FA.

His coaching career also included work with the England women’s national team, where he served as an assistant coach to Sarina Wiegman and was part of the Lionesses’ successful Euro 2022 campaign.

He worked on specific aspects of players’ technical development while also contributing to wider tactical strategies, having previously coached the England men’s Under-15 side.

The latest chapter in the Twose family’s Welsh football story will now see Cody take his next steps with Haverfordwest County as they attempt to move away from the bottom of the Cymru Premier table.
