Cymru Premier: Club parts ways with ex-Wrexham, Fleetwood Town and Huddersfield Town midfielder

Flint Town United have parted company with first-team manager Lee Fowler by mutual agreement, bringing an end to his four-year spell in charge of the Cymru Premier club.
The Silkmen confirmed Fowler’s departure on Monday after a difficult start to the 2026/27 campaign, with Flint one of four teams yet to record a league victory after their opening 10 matches.
Fowler’s final game in charge came on Friday night as Flint were beaten 4-1 away at Airbus UK Broughton, with Harry Dean scoring a late consolation for the visitors.
The club thanked Fowler for his “time, effort and commitment” following a spell which saw him oversee a significant period in Flint’s recent history.
Fowler leaves after four years at the helm
Fowler was appointed Flint manager in June 2022 and went on to oversee more than 150 matches as manager.
His time at the club included guiding Flint back to the Cymru Premier and helping establish them in the Welsh top flight.
Last season brought one of the biggest moments of Fowler’s tenure as Flint reached the Welsh Cup final for the first time since 1954. They booked their place in the showpiece with a 5-1 semi-final victory over Bangor City 1876, with Elliott Reeves scoring twice.
Flint ultimately lost 3-0 to Caernarfon Town in the final, but Fowler’s side went on to secure their Cymru Premier status on a dramatic final day of the league season.
The club confirmed in June that Fowler would return as first-team manager for the new campaign after Steve Evans had temporarily taken charge during a review of the footballing structure.
Winless Cymru Premier start leaves Flint searching for a response
The decision to part company with Fowler comes after a difficult opening 10 games of the new Cymru Premier season.
Chairman Darryl Williams commented, “The decision to change manager was made all the more difficult by the fact that Lee is such a lovely human being.
“His ability to get to know everyone at the club was exceptional, and he engenders a great deal of warmth and respect. This is a very sad day for me personally, and the club as a whole”.
Flint’s final 10 league results under Fowler were: Flint suffered a 3-2 defeat to Llandudno, followed by a 3-2 loss to Barry Town. They then recorded a 1-0 victory over Cambrian United before losing 1-0 to Briton Ferry. Flint drew 1-1 with Penybont, then suffered a 2-1 defeat to Connah’s Quay Nomads, a 3-0 loss to Caernarfon Town, and a 1-1 draw with Cardiff Met. They were then beaten 5-0 by The New Saints before ending the run with a 4-1 defeat to Airbus UK Broughton.
The run leaves Flint without a victory from their first 10 league fixtures, with Friday’s heavy defeat at Airbus proving to be Fowler’s final match in charge.
The club will now begin the search for a new manager as they look for a new manager who can help fix their early-season struggles.
A summer of change at the Essity Stadium
Fowler’s departure comes after a summer of significant change to the Flint squad.
A number of players left the club, including Jake Phillips, Harry Cartwright and Ben Wynne, while Josh Jones, Alec Mudimu, Osebi Abadaki, Evan Smith, Darren Stephenson and Oliver Kilner were not offered new contracts. Several loan players also returned to their parent clubs.
One of the most significant departures was forward Elliott Reeves.
Reeves had been a key attacking figure for Flint during their recent rise, and scored 23 goals in 50 Cymru Premier appearances for the club. He was initially included on Flint’s retained list in June, but the forward had to leave the club due to personal circumstances.
Harry Dean has emerged as Flint’s leading scorer so far, with three goals, including strikes against Barry Town and Airbus UK Broughton.
Flint have also added several players during the summer, including Dean, Joe Malkin, Harrison McGahey, Tunde Owolabi and Isaac Modi. Dean joined from Bala Town after making 29 appearances in all competitions for the Lakesiders last season.
The Silkmen’s next task will be to respond to Fowler’s departure and a difficult opening to the season, with the club now facing a new chapter following four years under the former Wrexham midfielder.
