Some Cymru South football grounds are just a short stroll from a Wetherspoons, while one club faces a much longer journey for a post-match pint
Football and Wetherspoons might not immediately seem like the most obvious pairing.
But for supporters heading to Cymru South matches, the two can sometimes be surprisingly close neighbours.
We’ve taken the 16 clubs in the 2026/27 Cymru South and ranked them by how far their ground is from the nearest Wetherspoons, using the distances supplied for each club.
And there are some big differences.
For some supporters, a post-match trip to the pub could be just a few minutes away. For others, it could involve a rather longer journey.
The Cymru South is made up of 16 clubs for the 2026/27 campaign, with teams stretching across South Wales from Aberystwyth to Newport and from Llantwit Major to Ynyshir.

The Cymru South clubs closest to a Wetherspoons
1. Aberystwyth Town – 0.3 miles
Wetherspoons: Yr Hen Orsaf
Aberystwyth Town supporters don’t have far to go if they’re looking for a Wetherspoons after the final whistle.
The club’s nearest pub on our list is Yr Hen Orsaf, just 0.3 miles away.
The pub itself has a particularly appropriate history for a football day out, as it occupies Aberystwyth’s former railway station on Alexandra Road.
2. Carmarthen Town – 0.3 miles
Wetherspoons: Yr Hen Dderwen
It’s a tie at the top, with Carmarthen Town also just 0.3 miles from its nearest Wetherspoons.
That means supporters of both Aberystwyth Town and Carmarthen Town have one of the shortest pub journeys in the Cymru South.
3. Llanelli Town – 0.9 miles
Wetherspoons: The York Palace
Llanelli Town comes next, with The York Palace listed as 0.9 miles away.
So while it isn’t quite within the same ultra-close category as Aberystwyth and Carmarthen, it is still comfortably under a mile.
4. Cardiff Draconians – 1.1 miles

Cardiff Draconians are next at 1.1 miles, putting them just over the one-mile mark.
5. Newport City – 1.3 miles
Wetherspoons: The Godfrey Morgan
Newport City supporters have 1.3 miles between their club and The Godfrey Morgan.
The Wetherspoons is on Chepstow Road and is named after Godfrey Morgan, Viscount Tredegar.
6. Afan Lido – 1.4 miles
Wetherspoons: The Lord Caradoc
Afan Lido are 1.4 miles from The Lord Caradoc in Port Talbot.
The Station Road pub is named after Caradoc ap Iestyn, regarded as the first of the Lords of Afan.
7. Pure Swansea – 1.9 miles

The city-centre pub is on The Kingsway, putting it within a reasonable distance for supporters looking to continue their matchday after the final whistle.

Treowen Stars are the first club on our list to hit the two-mile mark, with The Sirhowy listed at 2 miles away.
9. Baglan Dragons – 2.1 miles

Baglan Dragons are 2.1 miles from The Lord Caradoc.
That means the Port Talbot Wetherspoons features twice in the rankings, serving both Baglan Dragons and Afan Lido as their listed nearest option.
10. Caerau Ely – 2.5 miles

Caerau Ely are 2.5 miles from The Ivor Davies. That places them in the middle section of the ranking rather than among the clubs with the very longest journeys.
11. Pontypridd United – 2.8 miles
Wetherspoons: The Malcolm Uphill
Pontypridd United supporters have 2.8 miles to travel to The Malcolm Uphill. That puts the club just outside the two-mile group and into the longer-distance half of our ranking.

12. Caerphilly Athletic – 3.1 miles
Wetherspoons: The Sirhowy
Caerphilly Athletic are 3.1 miles from The Sirhowy, but the club’s connection to Wetherspoons goes a little further than simply having one nearby.
The club went all-in on its goalkeeper kit, with Tor Sports creating a design inspired by a classic Wetherspoons plate.
Caerphilly’s home goalkeeper shirt is already hard to miss, with the bright yellow design covered in Caerphilly Cheese.
But it is the away goalkeeper strip that really caught the eye, with the design created to look like a Wetherspoons plate.
It means Caerphilly Athletic may have one of the most on-theme goalkeeper kits in the Cymru South, particularly given that their nearest Wetherspoons, The Sirhowy, is just over three miles away.
13. Trethomas Bluebirds – 3.1 miles
Wetherspoons: The Sirhowy
Trethomas Bluebirds groundshare with Caerphilly Athletic, so they share the same distance, at 3.1 miles. The Sirhowy therefore appears for three clubs in the ranking, with Treowen Stars also listed as two miles away.
14. Ynyshir Albions – 3.4 miles
Wetherspoons: The Tumble Inn
Ynyshir Albions are 3.4 miles from The Tumble Inn, which is in the town centre of Pontypridd. That puts them firmly into the longer-distance half of our list.
15. Pontardawe Town – 4.3 miles
Wetherspoons: The David Protheroe
Pontardawe Town face the biggest journey among the clubs in this part of the table, with The David Protheroe listed at 4.3 miles away.
The pub is in Neath, making it one of the more substantial journeys for supporters hoping to find a Wetherspoons after the match.
16. Llantwit Major – 7.8 miles
Wetherspoons: The Wyndham Arms Hotel
It’s a sizeable jump for Llantwit Major.
The club’s listed Wetherspoons is 7.8 miles away, making it the longest journey in the entire Cymru South ranking. That is a fair bit further than the 0.3-mile trips faced by supporters of Aberystwyth Town and Carmarthen Town.
