Lee Fowler breaks silence on Flint Town United exit with honest verdict

Lee Fowler has broken his silence after leaving Flint Town United, thanking the players, staff and those who supported him during his four-year spell at the Cymru Premier club.
Fowler’s departure was confirmed by the Silkmen on Monday, with the club announcing that they had parted company with their first-team manager by mutual agreement.
His exit brings an end to a significant period in Flint’s recent history, with Fowler overseeing more than 150 matches and helping the club return to the Cymru Premier.
The decision came after a difficult beginning to the 2026/27 campaign, with Flint among four teams still searching for their first league victory after 10 matches.

In a statement reflecting on his departure, Fowler said he believed the decision was the right one, while acknowledging that football can sometimes demand a change in direction.
“My time at Flint Town United has come to an end and was the correct decision,” the former Wrexham said on his social media.
“Football doesn’t always give you what you need from it at times. But equally needs fresh ideas.”
Fowler also paid tribute to the people he worked alongside during his time at the club.
“I’ve met some amazing people at the club; to my staff, thank you for your hard work and loyalty,” he added.
Special praise for Steve Evans after three seasons together
One of Lee Fowler’s most personal tributes was reserved for Steve Evans, who worked alongside him for three seasons.
Fowler highlighted the trust and understanding that developed between the pair, particularly around the preparation for training sessions.
“Steve Evans deserves a special mention. One to put up with me for three seasons, when he could see the sense, and I could see the danger, and work things out in my head before every session, was huge for me,” Fowler said.
He also referred to Evans’ actions on Monday, adding: “What he did on Monday shows the kind of man he is.”
Fowler finished his message with a simple acknowledgement of the Flint players: “Lastly, thank you to the players.”
Welsh Cup final was a major highlight for Flint
Fowler’s time at Flint included some of the most memorable moments in the club’s recent history.
After taking charge in June 2022, he helped guide the Silkmen back into the Cymru Premier and establish themselves in the Welsh top flight.
Last season proved particularly memorable as Flint reached the Welsh Cup final for the first time since 1954.
They secured their place in the showpiece with a 5-1 semi-final victory over Bangor City 1876, with Elliott Reeves scoring twice.
Flint were ultimately beaten 3-0 by Caernarfon Town in the final, but the campaign still ended with another dramatic achievement.
Lee Fowler’s side went on to preserve their Cymru Premier status on the final day of the league season.
That ensured Flint remained in the top flight after a campaign which had delivered both the excitement of a historic Welsh Cup run and the pressure of a relegation battle.
Now, after more than four years in charge and over 150 matches at the helm, Fowler’s tenure has come to an end.
His departure leaves Flint looking for a new manager as the club attempts to turn around a difficult start to the 2026/27 Cymru Premier campaign.
Flint’s first game without Fowler is against Ammanford
Flint Town United’s first game without Fowler will come against Ammanford, who are also yet to record a victory in the top flight this season.
The club have now begun the search for Fowler’s successor and says they will work “tirelessly” to make the appointment as quickly and efficiently as possible.
