Flint Town United: Danny Holmes’ first words as new Silkmen boss with Lee Fowler tribute

Danny Holmes has spoken of his delight at taking charge of Flint Town United and revealed he cannot wait to get started after succeeding Lee Fowler as manager.

The 37-year-old has been appointed as the new boss of the Cymru Premier side following Fowler’s departure from the Essity Stadium.

Fowler’s exit was confirmed on Monday, with the former Flint Town manager admitting that parting company was the “correct” decision and that the club needed “fresh ideas”.

Holmes has now taken the reins and is already looking ahead to his first game in charge against Ammanford.

The new Flint boss was quick to pay tribute to the work Fowler put in during his four years at the club, while making it clear that he is eager to begin his own chapter.

In a post shared on his X account, Holmes said: “Delighted to be here.

“So excited to get going & follow on from the great work Lee Fowler has done at the club.

“Bring on Saturday.”

The appointment represents the second management role of Holmes’ career, having previously been in charge of Vauxhall Motors.

He has spent the past few seasons working with the club and has gained experience alongside a number of players with Cymru Premier connections.

Former Cymru Premier players set to reunite with Holmes

Holmes already knows several members of the Welsh football scene well, including Nick Rushton and Vita Mbolokele, who he worked with during his time at Vauxhall Motors.

He will also be reunited with Joe Malkin, who played for Bala Town before joining Vauxhall Motors and subsequently returning to Wales with Flint.

Holmes’ appointment has already prompted messages of support from people across the Welsh football pyramid.

Former Newport County forward Kevin Ellison was among those to wish him well, writing: “Good luck Dan.”

Bala Town midfielder Jamie Cummings also sent his congratulations, saying: “Congratulations, mate.”

Holmes knows the Cymru Premier from his own playing days

The new Flint Town United manager is no stranger to the Cymru Premier, having won back-to-back league titles as a player with Connah’s Quay Nomads under Andy Morrison.

That experience means Holmes will come up against several familiar faces in opposition dugouts as he begins his managerial career in the division.

John Disney is now manager of Connah’s Quay Nomads, while former Nomads teammate Mike Wilde is in charge at Colwyn Bay.

Holmes will also be reunited with Flint assistant manager Steve Evans, with the pair having previously played together at The New Saints.

Flint Town United face Ammanford as Holmes prepares for first test

Holmes’ first challenge comes with Flint currently sitting 15th in the Welsh Premier League, with Saturday’s meeting with Ammanford providing his first opportunity to put his ideas into practice.

The new manager has made no secret of his excitement at taking over and will now have the opportunity to build on the foundations laid by Fowler during his four-year spell.

With Holmes already familiar with the league and a number of its players and managers, his first game promises to mark the beginning of a new chapter at Flint Town United.
