Pontypridd United goalkeeper Mike Lewis has revealed the extent of his serious knee injury after undergoing surgery, admitting the first few days of his recovery have been “very humbling and painful”.
The Dragons shot-stopper has been sidelined since the opening weekend of the season after suffering an injury during the club’s 3-2 victory over Treowen Stars.
Lewis, 37, was forced off in the 36th minute, with Lewis Mouland coming on to replace him between the sticks.
The experienced goalkeeper has now undergone an ACL reconstruction and lateral meniscus repair, with a hamstring graft used during the operation.
Mike Lewis gives an update after knee surgery
Posting on Instagram, Lewis shared photos of his knee in a brace alongside an update on his recovery.
He wrote: “1 Week post op (ACL reconstruction, lateral meniscus repair with a hamstring graft).
“Massive shout-out to my amazing wife, as even the simplest of tasks have been almost impossible.
“Very humbling and painful first few days!
“The long road to recovery is underway!”
Former teammate Nathan Wood responded to the post, saying: “Rest up, mate.”
Lewis now faces a lengthy period on the sidelines as he begins his rehabilitation from the significant knee injury.

Pontypridd United forced into goalkeeper change
Lewis’ injury left Pontypridd United needing to strengthen their goalkeeping options, with the club dipping into the transfer market.
Ed King arrived from Newport City and joined former Steelmen teammates Richard Noyes, James Bloom and Clayton Farah at USW Sport Park.
King has gone on to make seven appearances for Pontypridd so far, although he is yet to keep a clean sheet. Mouland has continued to provide back-up.
The injury has therefore left Ponty without one of their most experienced players during the early stages of the campaign.

Lewis’ long career in Welsh football
Lewis has enjoyed a lengthy career in Welsh football and was included in the Wales C squad in March 2018.
He has made more than 300 appearances in the Cymru Premier, keeping 73 clean sheets, while he has also recorded 14 clean sheets in 39 Cymru South appearances.
The goalkeeper spent a lengthy spell with Barry Town United, featuring for the club from the 2016/17 campaign through to the 2023/24 season.
He has also represented Aberystwyth Town, Carmarthen Town, Llanelli Town and Penybont during his career.
Lewis joined Pontypridd United during the January transfer window in 2026 and has kept four clean sheets in his 13 appearances for the club.
For now, though, his focus is on rehabilitation, with Lewis acknowledging that the difficult road back to playing has already begun.
