Penybont survived a late Afan Lido fightback to secure their place in the next round of the Welsh Cup, with three players standing out in a dramatic second-round encounter.
The final game of the Welsh Cup second round delivered plenty of excitement, as Cymru Premier regulars Penybont were pushed by a determined Afan Lido side who refused to give up until the dying minutes.
While the contest produced several impressive individual performances, three players caught the eye for their contributions at crucial moments. From Tyler Walker’s immediate impact after the break to Liam McCreesh’s late response for Lido, there was plenty to admire on both sides.

Tyler Walker sets the tempo for Penybont after the break
Tyler Walker made an immediate impression in the second half, finding the net less than a minute after the restart following an excellent move involving his team-mates.
The forward’s goal provided the visitors with an important moment in the contest, but his contribution went beyond simply getting on the scoresheet. Walker showed an awareness of the players around him, helping to establish the tempo as Penybont looked to take control.
His work on the ball was particularly effective, with composed touches allowing him to link up play and bring others into the attack. He also made the direct runs that gave his side an additional threat going forward.
It was an encouraging all-round display from Walker, who helped give his side renewed momentum at a key stage of the match.
Liam McCreesh gives Afan Lido hope of a late upset
For Afan Lido, substitute Liam McCreesh provided one of the most memorable moments of the closing stages.
Introduced in place of experienced forward Alex Giardelli, McCreesh made his presence felt almost immediately, scoring less than 10 minutes after coming off the bench.
His goal came from a free-kick situation, with the substitute getting a touch to divert the ball into the net and give Lido renewed hope of pulling off a late upset against their higher-level opponents.
The goal changed the atmosphere around the closing minutes, leaving Penybont with work to do as Lido pushed for a dramatic finish.
McCreesh continued to show energy and determination after scoring, keeping up the pressure and refusing to let the game drift away. His introduction proved an effective attacking change for Lido, whose late fightback ensured Penybont could not afford to relax.

Eduino Vaz continues to cause problems for the Lido defence
Eduino Vaz was another standout performer, with the winger providing a consistent attacking threat throughout the contest.
His direct approach and willingness to take on defenders repeatedly caused problems for Afan Lido, creating opportunities for his team-mates and forcing the opposition to remain alert.
Vaz’s influence was particularly evident in the build-up to Alyas Debono’s first goal, as he delivered an excellent set-up to help his teammate find the net.
However, the positive contribution was followed by disappointment when Debono scored an own goal shortly afterwards, giving Afan Lido encouragement as they attempted to get back into the match.
Despite that setback, Vaz’s attacking quality remained a feature of Penybont’s performance. His ability to beat defenders, create chances and provide service in dangerous areas made him one of the most influential players on the pitch.
Three players who helped define a memorable Welsh Cup tie
Although the away side ultimately had to withstand a late challenge from Afan Lido, the contest showcased the individual quality and determination on display from both teams.
Walker provided the spark after half-time, McCreesh gave Lido a renewed sense of belief from the bench, and Vaz supplied the creativity that made Rhys Griffiths’ dangerous in the final third.
With the Welsh Cup offering the prospect of further challenges ahead, performances such as these will provide plenty for both sides to take from an entertaining second-round encounter.
