A British football YouTuber with 686,000 subscribers and a musician have visited Ammanford AFC as the club continues its historic first season in the Cymru Premier.
Ellis Platten, the creator behind AwayDays, and musician Alfie Indra spent an evening at the Recreation Ground, filming footage, interviewing people connected with the club and taking on a few free kicks.
First-team player Euros Griffiths was among those pictured with the pair, alongside several members of the club’s staff.
Ammanford earned promotion to the Welsh top flight in May 2026 and are now competing in the 2026/27 Cymru Premier campaign, having reached the division for the first time in their history. Their debut season began in July, with the club continuing to adjust to life among Wales’ leading teams.
A club statement said: “We’re excited to see what Ellis and Alfie have captured during their visit and what they produce from their time at the Recreation Ground.”

Who is football YouTuber Ellis Platten and how many followers does he have?
Ellis Platten has built a substantial online following through his AwayDays channel, where he explores football grounds, supporter culture and the stories that make the game special.
Known online as AwayDays, the British content creator has around 142,000 followers on Instagram and 135,000 on TikTok, alongside an audience of more than 680,000 subscribers on YouTube, according to his creator profile. His TikTok account has also generated millions of views across his videos, demonstrating the reach of his football content beyond YouTube.
Platten has worked with several major brands, including Nike, EA Sports FC, Just Eat and the UEFA Champions League, combining his interest in football with travel, entertainment and behind-the-scenes experiences.
His work has also brought him into contact with some of the biggest names in the sport, with former players, current professionals and football personalities appearing in his videos.
Ellis Platten’s football shirt collection and Classic Football Shirts collaboration
AwayDays is not just about visiting stadiums. Platten is also a dedicated football shirt collector, with a collection of more than 500 items ranging from vintage club kits to rare match-worn shirts.
His interest in collecting has become a major part of his content, particularly through his work with Classic Football Shirts, the specialist retailer known for its archive of retro and vintage football kits.
Platten presents the popular Shirt Shopping series, in which footballers, former players and other well-known figures explore the retailer’s collection, select shirts and share the memories and stories associated with them.
The series has featured an impressive range of guests, including David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Daniel Sturridge, Fabrizio Romano and Martin Tyler. Other football names associated with his shirt-focused content include Marco Reus, Alex Morgan, Jay-Jay Okocha and Rob McElhenney.
Among the notable episodes and features are the Arsenal shirt-shopping video with Lewis-Skelly, Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori, as well as a feature taking Manchester City winger Jérémy Doku around Classic Football Shirts’ extensive collection. The latter explores shirts connected to his career, from Anderlecht and Rennes to Belgium and Manchester City.
One of the most personal parts of Platten’s collecting journey has involved acquiring match-worn shirts, including a Lionel Messi shirt from Barcelona’s 2013 friendly against Paris Saint-Germain. His pursuit of such rare memorabilia became the subject of a 10-part YouTube series, which also documented the risks involved in collecting, including a costly scam.
His collection has opened doors to interviews and encounters that extend well beyond the world of vintage kits. In a January 2026 feature for Classic Football Shirts, Platten discussed how collecting has helped him meet football figures he never expected to encounter, with his interview with legendary commentator Martin Tyler among the experiences he particularly valued.
What happened during their visit to Ammanford?
During their evening in Ammanford, the visitors interviewed people from within the club and tried their hand at a few free kicks.
Euros Griffiths, a member of the first team, was pictured alongside Platten and Indra, as well as club staff.
The visit offers an opportunity to shine a light on the people behind Ammanford’s historic campaign, with the club keen to see what the pair produce from their time at the ground.

Ammanford’s first season in the Cymru Premier
Ammanford secured their place in Welsh football’s top division after earning promotion in May 2026, marking the culmination of decades of progress since the club was founded in 1945.
Their first Cymru Premier campaign began on July 31, when they travelled to face Briton Ferry Llansawel. The club subsequently hosted Colwyn Bay for its first home match in the division on August 7, a historic occasion at the Recreation Ground.
The step up represents a major challenge for the Carmarthenshire side, who are now testing themselves against some of the most established teams in Welsh football.
With their debut top-flight season underway, the visit from AwayDays provides another opportunity to introduce Ammanford to a wider football audience and showcase the club’s journey to the Cymru Premier.
