Cardiff Draconians have confirmed that the experienced Jamal Roberts has left the club to join Canton, bringing an end to his spell with the Cymru South side.
The 37-year-old drops down a division after playing an important role in the Dracs’ title-winning campaign two seasons ago, when Nana Baah’s side secured the Ardal South West in 2024/2025.
Roberts made 25 appearances in all competitions as Cardiff Draconians lifted the title, having previously enjoyed success under Baah at Caerau, where he won a Welsh League title. The pair also worked together at Treharris Athletic Western.
However, his involvement has been more limited this season, with the experienced player making seven appearances in all competitions. His only starts came in the Welsh Cup, while he was primarily used as a substitute in league action.
His final appearance in a Dracs shirt came in the 2-0 victory over Afan Lido, with Roberts now moving on to a Canton side looking to improve their fortunes in the South West.

Nana Baah pays tribute to ‘model professional’ Jamal Roberts
Baah was quick to pay tribute to Roberts following his departure, admitting it was a disappointment to lose a player who had become an important figure both on and off the pitch.
“It’s a real shame to lose Jamma, as he moves on to Canton,” the Dracs manager said.
“Jamma has been nothing but a model professional during his time with us. He holds himself and those around him to high standards and I have always respected the way he conducts himself both on and off the pitch.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with him over the years, but our relationship goes beyond football. Jamma is a very good friend of mine, and although I’m disappointed to see him leave the Dracs, I completely understand his decision and wish him nothing but success.”
Roberts will be reunited with former Dracs team-mate at Canton
The move will see Roberts link up with a Canton side currently second from bottom in the South West, having collected just four points from their opening nine league matches.
His arrival will provide the club with an experienced option as they look to turn their season around, with Roberts bringing title-winning experience and a long-standing relationship with Baah.
He will also reunite with Rameer Outlaw, having previously played alongside him at Cardiff Draconians.
Canton’s next scheduled fixture is against Mumbles Rangers on November 8, with Roberts potentially in line to make his debut as the club look to climb away from the bottom end of the table.

Dracs boss admits 37-year-old will be ‘massively missed’
Baah also highlighted the wider impact Roberts has had on the club, revealing that his departure will be felt throughout the Dracs’ dressing room and beyond.
“He will be massively missed by me, the players, coaching staff, committee and supporters,” he added.
“We will also really miss his son Reuel, better known to us all as Stato, who has become part of the Dracs family.”
Roberts’ departure marks the end of another chapter in his career, but his contribution to Cardiff Draconians’ 2025 title-winning season will remain a significant part of his time at the club.
