Former Newtown striker Jason Oswell is subject to Football League and National League interest.

The 25-year-old who left the Robins for Stockport County last summer excelled for The Hatters last season, scoring 28 goals in 47 appearances for Jim Gannon’s men. His performances in the 2017/2018 season saw him named in the Vanarama National League North ‘Team of the Season’ in his debut campaign.

Oswell has not been included in Stockport County’s retained list and looks set to move away from Edgley Park.

His performances have attracted interest from Chester, Port Vale and Wrexham according to the Chester Chronicle.

When asked if Chester were interested in signing Oswell, joint manager Anthony Johnson replied: “We would love to sign Jason Oswell,”

“We didn’t see any better than him last season in the National League North and he was banging the goals in and finished just behind Jason Gilchrist (Southport) I think. He’s a top finisher and would be an asset to this football club.

“He is a free agent and lives locally. If we weren’t interested then something would be wrong as he ticks all the boxes that you want. He is a top player and we want lads of his calibre here if we can get them.”

If Oswell were to opt to join Port Vale, he would be the second player this summer to arrive at Vale Park with Welsh Premier League experience. Connell Rawlinson of The New Saints, penned a contract with the Valiants this summer.

During his three years with Newtown, Oswell scored an impressive 56 goals in 104 appearances. He also played for Airbus UK Broughton and Rhyl.

His last act in the Welsh Premier League was to pick up his Golden Boot and Player of the Year award, before moving to the English non-league system with Stockport County.
