Wales Women have moved up five places to 29th in the FIFA World Cup rankings, their highest ever ranking.
Jayne Ludlow’s side beat Bosnia & Herzegovina who dropped nine places after their defeat. Russia, who is ranked 27th, dropped down a place, after their 3-0 defeat to Wales Women at Newport Stadium, earlier this month. They have moved up a total of five places, from their original position of 34th.
They’ve yet to concede in the whole of their qualification campaign, picking up seven clean sheets.
Wales Women have one game left in World Cup Qualifying, after topping their group in the last match round. They are scheduled to play England, who have dropped down two places, to fourth in the world.
The venue for the crunch game with England hasn’t been decided yet but Newport County’s Rodney Parade and Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground have been mooted as possible stadiums, that the Welsh Women’s team could use.
Speaking to BBC Sport Wales, Jayne Ludlow said: “There are still discussions going on at the moment just to make sure we get the best venue for us and nobody else.
“We are really looking forward to the next game being a cup final match for us and having a really big, loud fan base coming to supports us hopefully.”
In addition, manager Jayne Ludlow was inducted to the Welsh Sports hall of fame. She had a 13-year playing career, scoring over 200 goals for Arsenal as she helped them to nine Premier League titles, six FA Women’s Cups and European glory, when they won the UEFA Cup in 2007.
