Cardiff Metropolitan 4-0 Llanelli Town: Archers return to winning ways with emphatic victory over sorry Reds

Cardiff Metropolitan inflicted a heavy defeat over a sorry Llanelli Town side on a freezing night at the Cyncoed Campus ahead of a busy festive period.

A first-half goal from Kyle McCarthy set Met on their way, the Students stepped up their game in their second half.  Adam Roscrow, Eliot Evans and Sam Snaith piled the misery on an uncreative Llanelli side in the final quarter of the game.

This result sees Cardiff Met’s top six hopes remain alive while Llanelli are two points adrift of Llandudno at the foot of the table and five points off of tenth-placed Carmarthen Town, who also dropped points.

Should Llandudno claim an unlikely victory over Newtown at Latham Park in the televised fixture tomorrow, then Llanelli will end Matchday 17 bottom of the table.

Tonight’s comprehensive victory gives Cardiff Met their first league win since beating Llanelli Town at Steboneath Park back in October. The Reds, on the other hand, are now on a five-game winless streak on the road.

Cardiff Met started the game with a fast pace and an eagerness to score early on.

Frontman Adam Roscrow had two chances within the first 20 minutes; The first one coming from drilled a shot in the early stages of the game which forced the Llanelli keeper Oliver Davies to tip it over the bar. The next saw him free in the box but he snatched at the chance and fired it over.

Llanelli had a huge let-off just over the half-hour mark. Jamie Owen’s attempted pass was intercepted by Roscrow, however, Davies was there to rescue the Reds with a smart save. Straight after Kyle McCarthy tested Davies from outside the box but the keeper was equal to the strike.

Having been denied by Davies moments earlier, Met broke the deadlock from an identical position to their previous chance. McCarthy rifled a shot into the top left corner to give the Archers the lead.

Roscrow had two more chances to put the home side ahead before the break that wasn’t good enough to beat Davies.

Llanelli had their first chance of the match with 65 minutes on the clock. Chris Jones’ cross found the head of Michael George, but he could only divert it wide of the post.

Met came close to doubling their lead in the after a corner led to a scrappy situation in the area, multiple shots couldn’t find their way through.

George’s low effort from the edge of the area resulted in Max Manson making an awkward save having been untested up until this moment.

Roscrow had yet another effort to put Llanelli to the sword after heading a cross by Eliot Evans just wide.

Moments after Roscrow increased Met’s advantage. Davies was caught off his line after failing to gather a loose a ball which saw a composed Ruscrow lob the Reds keeper.

Sam Snaith put the game beyond Llanelli’s reach after putting a close-range effort into the far corner.

Eliot Evans added Met’s fourth in the final ten minutes of the game from close range to increase the margin of defeat for a well defeated Llanelli side.
