Theo Wharton: Former Hereford midfielder joins Barry Town United

Barry Town United have completed the signing of central midfielder Theo Wharton.

Wharton, a former Cardiff City youth, joins having trained with Barry following his release from Hereford.

The 25-year-old moves to the Welsh pyramid for the first time after spells with Nuneaton Borough, Tamworth Weston-super-Mare and York City.

Wharton is a St Kitts & Nevis international and has represented them eight times, having played for Wales at Under-21s level.

“Theo is a player I’ve known for a long time both through his dad Sean and during his time at Cardiff,” said manager Gavin Chesterfield

“It’s no secret that we’ve missed elements of control in midfield particularly due to losing Troy and Robbie through injury in August.

“Theo is an exciting player who has a good pedigree and I feel we will be a really good fit for each other.

“He’s been training with the squad for the last month and has integrated very well.”

Wharton could be seen as a direct replacement for departing midfielder Sion Spence.

Spence’s loan spell at Jenner Park Stadium came to an end this week.
