Stoke City have signed Aston Villa defender James Chester on loan until the end of the season.

Chester links up with Welsh teammates Adam Davies, Ashley Williams, Joe Allen and Sam Vokes.

“James is a player who has great experience at both club and international level and I’ve no doubts he will be a valuable addition to our squad for the remaining 14 games of this season,” said manager Michael O’Neill to StokeCityFC.com

The 31-year-old has made just two senior appearances for parent club Aston Villa this season. He is out of contract with the Claret and Blue at the end of the season.

The former West Bromwich Albion defender appeared 29 times for Villa last season as they won promotion to the Premier League.

His last cap for Wales was a 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Denmark in November 2018.
