A supporters committee tasked in setting up a phoenix club to Rhyl FC have decided on the name of CPD Y Rhyl 1879.
The initial decision was to retain the Rhyl FC name however following FAW advice, a change was needed and in doing so, CPD Y Rhyl 1879 was the preferred option.
An announcement on the club’s official media streams said: “Following FAW advice a new club name was required.
“After the closure of tonights Rhyl Fans Association ballot where are excited to announce the new phoenix football club name is CPD Y RHYL 1879.
The other option included was AFC Rhyl but the option to have a club name in Welsh outweighed the English version.
It is now subject to the approval of the Football Association of Wales who will also be tasked with placing the Lilywhites into the new pyramid structure.
Fans of the now-defunct Rhyl decided on creating a phoenix club back in April and have since appointed a number of people to roles at the newly formed club as they begin their early steps as a new entity.
