As-it-happened: Haverfordwest County 3-1 Aberystwyth Town

Haverfordwest County entertain Aberystwyth Town at the Ogi Bridge Meadow in the last set of fixtures in the Cymru Premier before Christmas.

Despite a spate of postponements, the Bluebirds have played on during the cold, but have suffered back-to-back defeats. They lost to both Cardiff Met and Newtown over the last fortnight.

Haverfordwest are currently eighth in the league standings, and are five points off of the top six, with Penybont holding two games in hand over Tony Pennock’s side.

A win for Aberystwyth could see them overtake their former manager, who had a spell first as assistant manager, before becoming manager, he swiftly left though to join English Football League club Hull City in 2017.

As for form, before their two back-to-back defeats, Haverfordwest had looked to have been picking up form with wins over Flint Town United, Airbus UK and Penybont. Before that they had suffered four back-to-back defeats.

For home form this season, they have won four of their eight games in West Wales this season.

Aberystwyth have faced the Cymru Premier’s top two clubs away from home in their last two games, shipping 14 goals, with most coming in an 11-0 defeat to The New Saints, followed up by a 3-0 loss to Connah’s Quay in midweek.

Home is where the heart is for Aberystwyth, they have won their last five matches there, whereas on their travels they have struggled. They have suffered seven straight defeats on the road, and have not scored in their last three outings.
