Llandudno Albion 1-1 Llanrwst Utd: Stalemate at Llandudno as Albion and Llanrwst fail to net winner

The OPS Wind Arena under the lights

The last Ardal Northwest game before Christmas was played last night as Llanrwst Utd faced Llandudno Albion at the OPS Wind Arena.

A good crowd was in attendance on a cold night with this fixture being the last with spectators before a new covid rule comes into place on Boxing Day meaning all games will be played behind closed doors until further notice.

After a goalless first half, it was Albion who struck first when Dan Evans netted with 73 played.

The Rwsters hit back straight away through Benn Lundstram after he struck the net thanks to great work down the right wing from Sam Thomas.

Both sides had a few clear chances, none more so than in form Callum Parry who missed a glorious opportunity late on for the Rwsters.

The first action of the game came in an unusual way, a long stoppage in play as the corner flag refused to stand up, the drunk flag finally cooperated, and play resumed.

After a dominant first 15 from Albion came a half chance for the visitors, good closing down from Rwsters left back Gruff ap Gwyndaf caused Llandudno goalkeeper Williams to rush his kick, it struck Gwyndaf and flew back towards the goal, Williams scuppered back and gathered. One of them that could have gone anywhere.

Llanrwst striker Callum Parry had his first real involvement not long after as the ball dropped kindly to him in the box, he hit a snapshot, but it went wide.

Parry was involved again shortly after with a great flick around the corner to Edwards, Parry got the ball back and crossed to youngster Math Thomas who hit a tame effort into Williams’ hands.

The best chance of the first half fell to Sam Thomas was found himself bearing down on goal, as he went to strike his shot an Albion defender got back to Thomas and got a touch on his shot to send it out for a corner that came to nothing.

Half time 0-0

After just under 20 minutes played in the second half it was the home side that broke the deadlock, good play from Stokes who was a threat on many occasions on the right-hand side as he took on Gwyndaf and crosses with his left foot, his cross was flicked goal bound by Dan Evans and the ball nestled into the far corner.

Two minutes after the Rwsters were back level, great work from Sam Thomas down the right-hand side found substitute Benn Lundstram who got across his marker to poke it home to level the game.

There was a big penalty shout not long after when Callum Parry was challenged in the area. Parry went down but the referee waved away the appeals.

Goal scorer Lundstram was involved again in the last few moments when he made a great run down the right, he was in on goal and had the option to shoot but decided to square it to strike partner Parry who got the ball stuck under his feet and hit his shot over the bar from close range.

Albion put the pressure on in the last moments with a fierce shot from range that whistled past Gwydion Owen’s left-hand post. Another shot from range also came close but just went over the bar.
