#JDWelshCup Treowen Stars v Ton Pentre

It’s Division Three against Division One as Monmouth based side Treowen host Ton Pentre in what could be a potential cupset.

We spoke to Treowen Stars manager Simon Evans who had a spell in Ebbw Vale.

“Obviously playing a team in Division One will always be a tough ask but we have seen from previous results in the cup we can compete with the top teams on our day.”

“It’s up to us on the day to make sure we perform like we know we can, that’s what I’ll be asking of my players on Saturday.”

“We are always looking to improve and while the start has been solid we feel with our new additions starting to settle we’ll now be looking to push on and ultimately reach a promotion spot. That had to be our aim this year.”

“A cup run is always nice especially in one with such prestige as the Welsh cup. It’s a chance for us to have a look at teams above us and gauge where we are and where we want to be. For a club of our size promotion is the number one aim this year, if we can take a few scalps on a cup run that’s a bonus.”

“The boys put in a massive performance against Taffs Well and I felt we were a little unlucky not to get a result. A little bouncebackability and we hope to cause another upset. Looking to Saturday we know ton will, and always have had a strong side going back to even my playing days! But we are relishing the task to play what we see as one of the ‘big boys’ of Welsh league football.”

“We will be missing a couple of players through injury. Stephen Parfitt is definitely out and his energy will be a big miss. Dan Suter is also a major doubt and if he doesn’t make it will be a big loss after making a big impact after joining us this year and making the step up to Welsh league.”

“I like to think playing home for us is always a great advantage:”

“I’ve been at the Stars a long time and know what this club expects of its players and management. We have a great group of talented lads at the moment and I hope we can all get this club back up the leagues again.”
