AFC Porth have secured the signing of former Cardiff City player Nicky Fish, after the player joined the club from Welsh League Division One side Taffs Well.
Fish was once on the books of Championship outfit Cardiff City, but after a collision with a lorry in Monmouth in 2005 whilst travelling back from a reserve game against Hereford for the Blueirds, he was left in intensive care and the player dropped out of football altogether for six years.
However, in 2012 he made his return with the club he spent time with as a child, Bridgend Street. He returned for the Street in March 2012 and scored from the spot on his return as the club chased promotion from Welsh League Division Three.
Fish never returned to the dizzy heights of Cardiff City, however he has found a home in the Welsh League system. The now 32 year-old spent time with Taffs Well after playing for the Street for four years between 2012 and 2016.
He departed the Street for Taffs Well this August, however has now made the switch to the high flying Division Two outfit, Porth.
The manager Gareth Morgan had the following to say on the signing of Fish;
We are delighted that Nicky was so keen to join us. He’s a player with great experience and quality and we are looking forward to seeing him help us as we try and push toward our goal for the season.
Porth currently sit second in the table behind Llanelli. Fish will go straight into the squad for their game against Aberdare Town on Saturday.
