Caldicot Town manager Mark Williams speaks to us before his sides’ cup clash against Premier League side Bala Town.
Caldicot sit bottom of Division One whilst Bala sit third, as one of the in form teams of the Premier League.
You go up against Premier League opposition on Saturday, are you relishing the chance to test yourselves against top flight opponents?
It will be a great test for the players against a top side in Bala, who are in fine form this season. We have a young squad so the experience of such as big game will only benefit them.
Can a cup run help your league form?
Definitely, overall have not performed this season anywhere near our potential so a good run in the cup will help us gain momentum. Since beating Cwmamman United in the previous round we have won 3 in 4 games so a good run can be very beneficial.
Have you prepared any differently than you would to a league fixture?
We have prepared in exactly the same way only difference is that we will be travelling up the night before and staying in a hotel so the players are fresh for the game.
What would a win mean to Caldicot if they were to upset Bala?
As a club our main priority this season is the league and to remain in Division one. However an upset against a team that are full of quality players and flying in the Premier division would be a great achievement and no doubt to the biggest win in the clubs history
Do you know much of Bala? Have you watched highlights of their fixtures?
I have watched a number of highlights from Bala games and they are strong all over the pitch especially cutting from wide areas and balls in behind. Their home form is particularly impressive.
Does anyone miss out on this tie? Due to injury?
Unfortunately for us we go into the game under strength missing a number of players due to injuries and suspensions. No fewer than 6 players from the First Team squad will miss this fixture.
Do you have much history in the Welsh Cup? Are you aware of the importance of it?
Over the years Caldicot have not had a great record in the Welsh Cup and the only time we got to the Third Round was a few seasons ago when we were due to play then high-flying Airbus UK at home. Unfortunately though due to a transfer technicality we were removed from the competition.
Mark paid respect to Bala Town and was appreciative of the welcoming the club had given them.
We look forward to the game and even with a number of players missing we will go into the game with no fear and nothing to lose. If the players put in a performance like I know they can and we get a bit of luck then you never know what can happen.
I would also like to thank Bala for a warm welcome on social media and it was great to hear, two of their supporters made a visit to our clubhouse a few weeks ago on route to the Wales game.
