Crunch time at the Cage: FC Nomads vs FC Queens Park

Two of the Welsh National Premier Division’s biggest teams will meet at FC Nomads’ ‘cage’ ground on Saturday afternoon. A meeting between the defending league champions and the current league leaders, the game’s result could have a significant say in this season’s title race.

And the drama doesn’t stop there, with the fixture a farewell game for FC Nomads’ caretaker manager Craig Hett, who is managing the team until Tom Taylor takes the hot seat in January 2017.

Having won the league with Nomads last year, Hett will look to end his short second spell with a significant victory, but this will be easier said than done against a high-flying Queens Park outfit.

Martin Ford’s Queens Park have won 12 of their thirteen games this season, and come to Wepre Park on a run of three consecutive wins that has helped them go an eye watering 16 points above FC Nomads.

However, the home side will be hopeful to climb the table with a number of games in hand, and are also on a good run coming off the back of a 3-1 victory over Overton. During Hett’s short reign FC Nomads have lost just once in five games.

Ahead of the game, Hett is well aware of the game’s magnitude but urges it won’t be a walk in the park for Queens Park.

“I’m looking forward to sharing a touch line with Martin Ford again, this fixture last year was one of interest from many a neutral it won’t be any different this time. Queen’s Park are flying at the minute and it’s good to see – but FC Nomads are not there to make the numbers up, we’re going into this game with real belief we can get a result.”

Martin Ford is similarly respectful of his opponents ahead of his side’s trip to Connah’s Quay.

“Playing last years champions is never going to be easy. But our lads’ confidence is through the roof at the moment and I reckon it’s going to be a cracker.”

The game kicks off on 2:00pm on Saturday 17 December at FC Nomads’ Wepre Park ground.
