The FAW council have pledged their support for a 12 team Welsh Premier League after a motion for a 16 team league was rejected at a meeting this afternoon.
The motion proposed the extension of the current 12 team format to a 16 team one, but the motion was not supported by the FAW council.
The decision comes after the annual Dafabet Welsh Premier League chairmen’s meeting was held last month, where the majority of clubs decided to support the 12 team format.
However, the motion’s defeat will be met with controversy, with growing dissatisfaction amongst WPL fans who have criticised the league’s current format, which guarantees four games against six clubs each.
